Tesla in 2022 is going to be about growth and battery cells

Happy New Year all longs

Here's a link to an article on electrek that talks about Tesla focusing on battery cell manufacturing in 2022. Their spodumene conversion plant in Texas should be ready sometime at the end of 2022, they will need material to convert. Will they sign offtakes with future North American producers or invest in projects...?

An offtake with Tesla would have our SP explode for sure. Heck, even a rumor that CRE and Tesla had a discussion about supplying lithium would do wonders. We never know ! But more down to earth, if Tesla does secure offtakes to supply material for battery production in 2022, what are the chances that he would look north rather than South America and Australia. I do not see anyone in Canada ...more

My understanding is that Tesla is building a conversion facility in Texas, they will be converting spodumene to hydroxide on their own and then putting it into their own batteries. They already have a "sort of" deal with Piedmont for spodumene, the question is will that be enough, will Piedmont get their act together before Cre. Piedmont has also had a few challenges along the way.

I also recall hearing something, probably just  rumours, about Ford planning to go the same route as Tesla and create conversion to hydroxide and their own batteries as well. Regardless, there is no way that the 13 giga factories planned for the US are going to source all their hydroxide from China, that would be more costly and increase the carbon footprint, and most of those plants will be ...more

To Wheeler and Montreal, I like all your arguments and would prefer CRE doing business in North America or Europe for sure. It makes alot more sense than shipping concentate around the world. Can Musk build a conversion plant and have it running efficiently within two years ? And will he ? On the other hand, China can probably build a running conversion plant in 6 months and already have ...more

CRE is looking good because of their location, safe jurisdiction, quality product, renewable energy, etc. It is also closer to the finish line than most others in North Amercia (slow but getting there !!!!). OEMs and battery manufacturers don't have many options to chose from. Ontario and Quebec have been on Tesla's radar for a while because there were Li and Ni dots on the map behind ...more
