EV trend

EV trend is real, it doesn't matter if Trump and GOP are coming back to take charge, they are not going to stop the trend.  In fact many conservatives are driving EV themselves.

A friend and I have checked out a few different EV Expos the last few months, it has been made very clear by the speakers and the governments that EV is on it's way.   At one expo a speaker mentioned that the province of Alberta is looking to install over 25 000 charges this year alone.  According to another speaker one of the things Tesla has done extremely well is their charging ...more

Keep in mind that there may be some additional costs for installing level 2 chargers that some of these guys at the Expo's are not telling us, so the level 1 charger market may still be bigger than I think, but my feeling is level 2 will be the minimum that most people will want to install.

One again we have people with no EV experience giving advice and opinion that is misleading or just plain incorrect. First, all EVs come with a level one cord for charging. It requires no equipment at all. Just plug into any 120 volt regular socket. Charging from empty takes 24 to 36 hours but for those travelling 40 to 50 km per day it could be adequate for them. I know people who charge this way ...more

Sorry, poor choice of words to say "install" for level one.  The point you're missing is that all the conversations I heard and had at the Expos and conferences from the majority of the people are that they are not interested in just plugging into the wall (unless they were senior citizens) and waiting an eternity to charge their car.  The minimum most are going to go for ...more

I think car manufacturers will increasingly offer L2 charging stations in their offerings, when selling/leasing car, not unlike they do with extended warranties, premium finishings and other options. Eventually, I could see DM EVS services being ine of these offerings. If so, that would be interesting.

Nice to see a good, honest, well laid out analysis of home charging. Thanks. Most people don't recognize the limits of our standard 100 amp home services when considering having one or two new EV's in the driveway -- or should I say garage. And then there are all those parked out on the street - what do you do with those? Being an electrician in the coming years will be a busy, lucrative ...more

Pandora, you make a good point. If a homeowner is planning on a home Reno or electrical changes in the house they should consider both the home electrical panel size and the unused power availability. Running wires for a 40 Amp line to a charger in the garage is sure to overwhelm a 100 Amp panel Even a 200 Amp panel might have trouble handling a 60 or 80 Amp feed to the garage (enough to charger 2 ...more

Sorry, I don't think that last link works. Basically here is what it's about. If interested you can look it up. Adding an EV Charger to Your Home Is About to Get Easier Siemens and ConnectDER's meter collar will allow a Level 2 AC Charger to be easily added to your home without other costly electrical upgrades. EV is an evolution that no single community can halt. Just like the internet in the last two decades , the big thing now to invest in is EV. DM.V is my single bet in the growing Canadian market.
