"The vehicle’s battery, meanwhile, consumes an incredible 24 MWh in its manufacturing." IMO, most consumers aren't concerned about that sort of thing. At least I'm not. I'm more interested in how an EV performs (accerlation, distance on a charge, repair bills, battery charge retention in colder weather, battery retention), and availability of charging stations. From the few ...more

JT will only invest big dollars in jurisdictions that can sway the election.  That's BC, Ontario and Quebec.  That's JTs style .... winning power comes ahead of doing what's best for Canada. Check his flight logs this week.   The climate emergency isn't a real thing apparently.

Interesting read for sure, but they make alot of assumptions and it's interesting to note that their energy fund (since inception in 2017) has been outperformed by the global MSCI index. These authors are not as infallibly prescient as they might like you to think. I find some of their theories intriguing and rational, but they are just that, theories.

I know I’m beating my mantra of clean air to death but if EV as I understand its principle is all about the environment, carbon footprints etc. with 16MT plus of Lithium on hand to be DLE from brine with little harm. Why would hard rock mining be even looked at, well alone given billions of dollars, like in N. Quebec. ‘Mining companies use energy-intensive trucks, crushers, and mills to extract ...more

Complete support from the provincial government, that's the reason. Understand that there is no brine in Qubec, only rock in the northern part of the province. Since the provincial government wants to build it's own mine-to-battery supply chain in Qubec and the only lithium to be extracted is hard rock, the decided to go full steam ahead and streamline permitting and provide support/grants ...more

Partially correct.   We also see the difference in Federal government support.  Once the PFS for E3 is completed I'm expect both levels of government to step up.  Time will tell.

Agree 100%. This project could have a significant impact on Alberta's economy in term of diversification and attraction of other industries linked to the North American EV battery supply chain in Western Canada.
Comment by Yajne on Feb 26, 2024 10:55am
Yes...agreed that the Quebec govt provides massive support to the hard rick mining industry in quest of their home-grown lithium, in doing so they have completely turned a blind eye to the ESL impacts of such mining. Kind of a hypocritical position for a province that claims to be a leader in protection of the environment. I guess to the majority of their population who live in cities, the mines ...more

...meant "ESG" ...

Yes Yajne I agree I don't want to get Politics involved. LOL But I'm heading for 80 and have upheld a few Liberal Governments even Paul Martin. This is the first time I can honestly say I can not support our Government. PT was an all together different bird then JT Sad to say but JT probably should just go back on the talk circuit for another organization like WE. gl

Maybe he is in the wrong country ,he should be running Cuba not Canada ?LOL

True, I rarely see any mention of environmental concerns about hard rock mining in Northern Quebec. Other than a recent protest by "tree huggers" over land use by the Northvolt Project in Saint-Basile near Montreal, it does not seem to be a factor so far in Quebec. Hopefully ESG performance will be a consideration for potential E3 lithium buyers which would help us develop this Alberta ...more
