As for nickel — another key ingredient in EV batteries — Musk said it’s only needed for “aircraft, long-range cars or trucks.”
“The vast majority of heavy lifting” of EV batteries will be iron-based batteries, and there’s plenty of iron in the world, he said.

Iron based batteries will be used in golf carts to go to the grocery store and thats it. The range of these batteries is only a couple of blocks. If you want to go any where or do any "heavy lifting" you will need a real battery with nickel. GLTA

I guess Elon got it wrong. Actually I think he was talking next generation EV. There is a fair number of new battery technologies coming, unfortunately for miners none of them include nickel or cobalt. Copper still needed for the grid.
