VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Jun 9, 2011 (Marketwire via COMTEX) -- CAPELLA RESOURCES LTD. (KPS)(CPSJ.F) ("Capella" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has discovered two new mineralization zones at its Lajitas gold-copper project in northern Chile as a result of the recently completed airborne hyperspectral imaging survey by SpecTIR LLC of Reno, Nevada.
The two mineralization zones (the South & Southeast) are composed of surface exposures of the alteration minerals alunite, jarosite, halloysite, and illite. The zones are located 1.8 kilometers south and southeast of Santa Fe gold resource at 4900 meters elevation in area with no roads and no history of prospection. The South Zone is equitant and 400 meters in diameter with the Southeast Zone being 200 meters in width and 500 meters in length. In late May geologists traveled to the area and gathered a serious of sample on which assay results are currently pending.
Capella's Lajitas Project is located on the Maricunga Gold-Copper Belt in the County of Copiapo, Third Region, Republic of Chile, approximately 700 km northwest of Santiago, Chile. The property consists of 1,600 hectares of exploration and exploitation claims.
Hyperspectral imaging technology utilizing airborne scanners capable of recording 357 spectral bands simultaneously in visible to short-wave infrared range of electromagnetic spectrum and is a relatively new surveying technology using reflected solar energy to detect specific surficial alteration minerals. Using a high-fidelity airborne sensor the hyperspectral imagery gives an unprecedented appraisal of the hydrothermal alteration mineralogy at Lajitas, Similar technology has been used elsewhere in the Maricunga belt yielding promising results.
