GMG has its own technology to obtain graphene at very cost effective way. It is their trade secret (some companies prefer to keep trade secrets instead of patent like Coca Cola). University has patent pending for graphene perforation. GMG has exclusivity agreement with the University. There is no alternative way to make efficient graphene cathodes. This technology is what makes graphene aluminium - ion battery so special in terms of how fast it charges and life time. Even if some other batteries may have at this moment higher density per kg you need to add all the cooling stuff to the pack. With graphene aluminium ion battery you don't need it. You don't need to mine lithium (environmental degradation) and cobalt (often involves child or forced labour) to make graphene aluminium ion battery. From what I understand GMG will provide technology to other companies involved in production of batteries. Their design will fit in all the currently existing battery packs.
Few words about battery market:
by 2027 battery market value will be 300 billion USD. 1/3 of it mobile devices, 1/3 electric vehicles, 1/3 other.
Graphene Aluminium Ion battery would be mostly suitable for mobile and EV. So we have 200 billion target market. Let's say GMG captures 5% of it. We are talking about 10 billion revenues a year few years from now (this for sure requires capex). If they just provide tech and receive royalties than I recon they could charge royalties likin semiconductor industry 5%. That would be 500 million annual income. This means that with 20x multiple the company shall be valued at 10 billion. Give or take stock price in few years from now should be around $50
There are risks as well:
- - they need couple of million financing - that shouldn't be much of a problem considering they already have a prototype
- they need to find business partners.
Most likely scenario:
I think they will be taken over by some industrial group at valuation similar to Quantumscape
All of the above is my private opinion. You have to do your own due diligence and make your own decisions.
