CFO speaks

I've been somewhat critical of Mr Vranic lately, but do appreciate his efforts in trying to contact Mr. Chan. Just thought I'd share

I'm at my wits end with the slaughtering of GPW's stock price. As if MBO wasn't enough of a kick to the gut. It prompted me to get into contact with Alan Chan, CFO of the company and the contact person for GPW on each of their news releases. Very friendly gentleman and answered all my questions in an upfront manner despite being busy in and out of meetings. My notes from the conversation:

1. He too shares the frustration over the price performance of the company. He is perplexed by the Canadian markets not rewarding good financial management. His average cost base on his shares is 36 cents. He has held the company since he helped take it public 10 years ago. There is no need for financing so there is no rush in seeing the stock priced much higher tomorrow. He is willing to wait it out and let the financials speak for themselves.

2. There is a plan to take the company to the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, reason being that the shares will be more liquid and at a higher price as the domestic investors will give a lot more respect to what the company can do.

3. I asked about the cash balance and the possibility of a stock buyback. No comment back about that either way, but he somewhat diverted saying that the company has plans to expand into other businesses, similar to what is stated in their Q2 news release.

4. He had a few choice words for Sino-Forest, blaming that fraud on why good companies like GPW falter. He reiterated my point that the frauds in mainland China are different than a company based in Hong Kong like GPW is.

5. I mentioned that his email listed on GPW news releases alanchan@grandpowerlogistics.comdoes not work, and that people get worried that its a fraudulent company because they are sensitive to that. He seemed surprised (I guess not a lot of people contact him about GPW) and suggested I contact him at achan@accapital.ca. He will get his IT support to look into what's going on with the email, or possibly change the contact email to the one he gave me. Incidentally, this is his website: https://www.accapital.ca

I get a sense that the relative lack of communication from this team and issues like the contact email not working and the website not being updated is due to a complete disdain for the Canadian markets mixed in with no need to finance so there's no reason to try to pump the stock. He appears frustrated with it and I think that is reflected in the effort of GPW where the bare minimum that is required to keep listed is kept (quarterly results and MD&A). At the same time he seemed pleased to talk to me and asked who I was - an individual investor or part of an institution or media. I think he is looking for respect and excitement over what his company has accomplished. I suggest that whoever has invested in GPW with me contact Alan by phone (the number listed on the news releases) or the email I gave and show your support for the company. It could result in better efforts on his part to get this thing moving again on the TSXV.

Syngut, Thanks for injecting a run-down of your communication with A.C. here...  I will say what certainly caught my attention from this was A.C.'s remarks towards your raising the subject of a non-functioning corporate email address.  IMO, if A.C. is immune to the impact and appearance this portrais to both the general public and the company's shareholders, well, WOW!!  I ...more

My apologies if I did not make this clear, but the conversation was between Edward Vranic and the CFO. Go to MobioInsider to see Edward's post. I just "copied and paste".

Ok, thanks for clairifying...  All said though, still doesn't change my feelings about A.C.'s view of a non-functioning corporate email addy.  That's something he should be on-top of and understand the importance of such a communication gateway.  If a shareholder(s) receives a notification that their email bounced, well, it could hit their nerves in the wrong way..   ...more

Financials are important, but image is everything! Smarten up GPW...no sympathy here. Marketing 101...make sure contact info is correct.

It's embarassingly bad, and makes the company look like a sham. But it still doesn't change my bullish perception on it. Revenue growth is revenue growth. Maybe these guys still run their business on old landline phones and use paper accounting lol

CFO's will lie through their teeth not to lose another concerned shareholder.....don't let this guy lead you on....he has already mentioned he has given up on the Canadian market....well maybe we should give up on him.....and rightly so!

Turns out Mobio is useful for something. https://www.mobioinsider.com/edward-vranic/activity/72183 I agree about the email thing. Complete disregard for shareholders, but the Canadian markets have abandoned GPW a long time ago so maybe that's why. If this is a step in the right direction in terms of improved shareholder communication then I am all for it. I like the idea of a listing on ...more

now if that isn't an understatement. Perhaps we should all sell our shares and then he wouldn't have to worry about any shareholders. Reading how this guy operates does not impress me one bit and does make me want to sell.

Sooooo....he didn't find it weird that he hasn't been receiving any emails of late......must be a slow month.....WTF !
Comment by moneymaker75 on Oct 09, 2014 1:44pm
Maybe he is use to...NOBODY contacting him. The GPW board is slow as it is with few active shareholders and in all my time here not once has anyone claimed they tried to make contact. Just list the financials and annual meeting on SEDAR and that's it.

Irregardless, that account GPL should be forwarding to his achan@accapital.ca account if that's all he checks (still a dumb configuration though). I just forwarded my bounced email from last night to this accapital account a few min back. Let's see what the outcome will be..?
