Branch Expansion

Grand Power Opens Branch Office for E-Commerce Hub

HONG KONG, CHINA and CALGARY, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - June 22, 2015) - Grand Power Logistics Group Inc. (the "Corporation") (TSX VENTURE:GPW) is pleased to announce that it has recently opened a new branch office in the city of Fuzhou, located in China's Fujian Province.

The branch will serve as the hub for a newly launched initiative by Grand Power, focusing on online and e-commerce shipping. The platform will initially concentrate on shipping between Europe and southern China, but also direct efforts toward serving the intra domestic market, which is growing substantially with the increase in online retail shopping in China.

According to the China E-Commerce Research Center (CECRC) an estimated 461 million Chinese consumers, a third of the country's population, are now shopping online, up from 46 million in 2007. China's e-commerce market grew 49% last year, and in 2013 overtook the U.S. as the world's biggest e-commerce market. Last year the country had $453 billion in sales online, 11% of all retail sales. With this tremendous growth, and the massive scale of shipping needed, is a hugely complex China logistics sector. There are over 35,000 express delivery companies operating inside of China's highly fragmented market. Of all the domestic cargo, 78% is being moved by road. With over 790,000 road hauliers, the top 20 trucking companies have only 2% of the total trucking market. (Source: Warehousing & Logistics International)

Ricky Chiu, President and CEO of Grand Power, said, "The Chinese e-commerce market is growing substantially, especially with the increasing development of mobile shopping. As the China logistics sector continues to grow to meet this demand, we believe a company like Grand Power who has both international and domestic experience, has the flexibility and know how to efficiently operate across this complex network of domestic and foreign couriers." He added, "Also, many foreign companies now prefer to ship internationally than to open physical locations in China. We think this a great opportunity to expand our operations and increase the diversity of our revenue stream, utilizing our current networks with little risk to the company."

Seems like a good idea considering how fast China's online market is growing.  It's also nice to know they understand where the growth areas are and if they can get a small share of that market I'm sure GPW will do very well.  And, he's right the logistics industry in Mainland China is very fragmented right now and there aren't really any huge players that dominate ...more
