Maduro wins third term, electoral authority says, contradicting exit polls

So the OFAC's decision to allow the sale of Citgo becomes easier if Maduro truly is the ultimate winner of the election (regardless of its legitimacy). Everyone wanted to wait until the election.  The successful bidder for Citgo should be determined in two days.  Hopefully it will be announced by the court.

Yes, winner should be announced today, July 31. See from Bloomberg at bottom. I'm not sure if losing bidders will be allowed to raise their bids after July 31, potentially up to September 19, or whether the auction will be deemed by the Court to have ended by July 31. The next 3 weeks will be for objections to the bid, and the two weeks following  that would be for replies to the objections. I doubt they would allow more bids during the objection period. If they did, they would have to have a new objection period after any newer bids.  Any changes to ...more

Agreed. From a few other articles I read it now looks pretty clear that there will NOT be any announcement regarding the July 31 situation. Likely all quiet until September 19.

I've seen nothing indicating the winning bid will be announced today and nothing indicating it won't be.  What articles are you referring to, please?

It would be somewhat surprising to have any announcement made currently in light of the goings on in Venezuela. A few days or a few weeks will not make a fundamental change in the expected results. I can see where the US GOV has made a request to hold on to any news re auction process. I for one am real interested in seeing what Brazil and other SA countries do re the election fraud in Venezuela ...more

The election result is ridiculous but Maduro's people have the guns. Brazil and Columbia may express a bit of indignation for a while. At worst I could see them withdrawing their ambassadors for a few days. Otherwise, what are they going to do? Invade? After a month or so things will have calmed down and Lula and Petro will be back to doing business as usual with their buddy Maduro. Very ...more
