Investor sees oil moving up

A Stockhouse investor on the North American Gem (TSX: V.NAG, Stock Forum) Bullboard called Saturn4 offered up his or her take on what might be brewing in the commodities markets these days, with speculation on investment down the road and two cents on inflation for good measure. The post below has been edited for clarity:

I think we may be at the beginning stages of a rally in commoditiessoon. Oil is starting to move up and the Canadian dollar is somewhatstable which looks like it will start to move up too. It takes time formeasures to work, but IMO we will soon see the effects: i.e., ofglobal interest ratecuts (plus likely more to come), dilution of U.S. dollar (bailout);investors may be starting to speculate that OPEC will cut productionand that will contribute to rise in oil. Inflation will be upon us aswell - IMO.

Saturn4 is not the only one looking for a rally. Thom Calandra thinks that a rally is upon us and he said as much in Oil analyst's down is our "UP".Buffett, of course, has been buying (though he makes no claim to seeinga bottom here necessarily). Colin Cieszynski observed that “markets may be starting to consolidate” and Mike Paulenoff, in his Mid-day Minute, is seeing strength in the NASDAQ.

No matter what Saturn, any stock pick at the moment looks like a losing choice.  Even NAG looks like a loser's choice in terms of "stocks".  This is a long term thing.  We can't have NAG rush into things without carefully planning things out.  That is something that is out of "our" control but we CAN control what to do with our stocks, holding on to ...more

Edsel8888 and old Saturn are both FULL of BALONEY!!! Investors do not dream up scenarios to suit there stock picks!!! Stock picking should be based on fact, and the fact is NAG has nothing nothing but intentions!- " This is a long term thing." .... LOL!!- "can't have NAG rush into things" .... LOL!!!- "lose this battle like those in Vietnam"..... LOL!!!!- " ...more

I agree Edson ... it looks like NAG has to be a long term investment now - as long as the markets are the way they are.  But that's no different from most other stocks that have seen huge losses.  NAG has to make good decisions which will impact the company and s/p.  Do they drill Sask. or focus on ACC?  Do they wait on drilling Sask. until they start generating income from ...more

"BUT, Long term this stock will do well IMO .."I'm curious as to what he bases his optimisim on! All they have in Saskatchewan are some permits to explore for coal.  They have no reported plans for drilling if and when they do get permits, I know they have received some of their permits.  This company in the states is another unknown.  Yes, it is in "coal country ...more

When i say long term I mean only a few months from now ... Jan./Feb./March 2009 - when earnings likely will starting coming in.  Most people, me included, were hoping that the s/p would have popped up this summer.  IMO it would have popped if the Sask. permit office did not take their sweet time and if the markets weren't so crap.  I blame the permit office first and foremost!!& ...more

NAG ran up on the coat tails of GXS, and they both TANKED when GSX's results were disappointing!!! Nobody can take credit for the TANKING, drill results did them in!! And IF drill results shows that have something, then they will be worth something! Until then, good luck!Aunt Millie
