We are currently seeking candidates for a vacancy in the position of Mine Geologist within our Mine Technical Services department. SUMMARY
Reporting to the Mine Technical Services Manager within our Mine Technical Services department, our Mine Geologist is responsible for ensuring that all geological services are provided in a timely fashion.
This position is a permanent full-time position, working predominantly on-site. The successful candidate will work on a 2/2-week rotation schedule. Schedule is negotiable.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect, document, and assess geological data within the mine, ensuring that all geological features in the mine are observed and recorded
- Ensure effective grade control in the mine; optimum ore recovery with minimal dilution by directing and monitoring of ore and rock according to the mining plan and established cut-off grades
- Establish plans and provide instruction to Mine Operations department when mining areas are under grade control
- Completing proper geological mapping
- Ensure the effectiveness and accuracy of analysis and reporting relating to geology programs and processes
- Provide geological information (ore blocks, lithological contacts, structural features, etc.), as required, to management and fellow team members within the Mine Technical Services department
- Maintain samples and geological databases and conduct QA/QC
- Ensure ore/waste are properly sent and dumped in correct locations
- Assist in ensuring proper blending for on-site mill to ensure optimal grade within mill processes
- Coach loading unit operators on material identification, dilution, and recovery
- Map, log, integrate, and communicate geological data and structures within general mine area
- Assist in preparation for exploration planning and strategies in cooperation with external consulting firms
- Work in collaboration with engineering and surveying team to ensure the overall success of the mine technical services team
- Additional duties, as assigned by Team Lead/Supervisor
SKILLS AND EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
- B.Sc. in Geology or Geological Engineering from a recognized university/institution
- Registration, or eligibility for registration, with PEGNL. BBAM will support successful candidate with their PEGNL registration
- 5 years’ experience in geology, with at least 2 years’ experience in mining, preferably in underground hard rock mining
- Experience with underground hard rock mining, particularly with cut and fill and long hole mining methods
- Ability to utilize AutoCAD and ProMine, knowledge of Surpac considered an asset
- Strong digital literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Microsoft 365 (Microsoft Office Suite), including OneDrive and SharePoint
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy with all tasks
- Dedication to working safely and adhering to regulatory requirements, sharing our target of a zero-incident workplace
- Proven time management skills, prioritizing tasks appropriately and working in an efficient and productive manner
- Ability to multi-task and work efficiently, working in high pressure environment with complex mining concepts and changing underground conditions
- Work well autonomously and in a team environment
- Physically fit, with ability to lift 50 lbs.

HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENT (HSE)
- All BBAM employees are required to work in a safe manner, adhering to the occupational health and safety requirements of BBAM, as well as following applicable provincial and federal guidelines and regulations. Candidates should possess a safety conscious mindset and understand our strict zero tolerance approach toward negligence and unsafe work.
- In accordance with our commitment to health and safety, successful candidates will be required to undergo a medical examination to ensure fitness for duty, as well as a drug and alcohol test. The successful completion of both are prerequisites to employment. Medicals and associated testing are completed by Main Street Medical Clinic (MSMC) with clinics located throughout the province. A criminal background check may also be required (depending on the position).

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- As our site is located 43 KM Southwest of Glenwood-Appleton, NL, (visible on Google Maps) employees would be required to travel a 43 KM gravel access road to get to the site. The road is professionally maintained throughout the year, but road conditions vary depending on seasonal weather conditions. While we have a trained and qualified Paramedic on-site, the nearest hospital (James Paton Memorial Hospital) is located one hour from site.
- Due to the nature of mining, applicants will be working in an industrial environment. As such, personal protective equipment (PPE) is required throughout many areas of the site and nearly all areas are deemed to be higher risk than non-industrial work areas. Much of our work is safety sensitive and various heavy equipment/machinery is being operated regularly.
- Candidate must be comfortable with working underground.
Both local (Glenwood-Appleton and Gander) candidates and non-local candidates are invited to apply.
