how would having 1/10 KURG's help rebuild after this recent storm,.,,can you buy supplies at the local store using Gold coins?...Food...Water...Fuel?

Gold is money. You make no sense.  If Argemendon were to occur I think silver would be of more direct use.   Gold would still be a store of value, something you could exchange for much silver.
