Dear RetiredGeo,  If you have the time. Can you tap into an old drill hole and save time drilling to a deeper depth or does the drill have a tendency to skip out and start virgin drilling anyway. In other words, if any of the previous drill holes just happened to line up with a deep target, could they save time that way? Just thinking. Thank you

There a regulations re abandoning drill holes. The older holes might not be used whereas the more recent ones might have been capped and could be used. Abandoned drill hole have to be restored so as not to contaminate the ground water.  True story, I was there, when blasting underground in a gold mine in Chibougamau Quebec, they occasionally ran into a water problem. If the old holes are cased, plugged and marked, and NFG holes probably all are, they can be deepened at a later date.  Uncased holes through overburden will tend to collapse in on themselves.  Unplugged holes will get full of ****.  Unmarked holes are just write offs.
