I assume any wind energy would be accounted for, and put into the BC Hydro's grid. A hydrogen facility could be hundreds of km away and that facility powered by hydro. But the accounted for wind energy would be credited. Who knows where wind energy will end up. It's not like having a direct transmission line to a facility everyone can see. I would like to see the wind project not just as a ...more

Need local hydro and imported electricity from the US Pacific NW to help development of offshore windfarms in BC. This dependence was known for years. The wind doesn't blow all the time. Two examples of cross border cooperation: "The Montana-Alberta Tie Line, is a 230 kilovolt (kV) line that allows for bidirectional flow of power primarily for new wind power generating units on both ...more

Not sure where you are coming up with some of this?! BC doesn't need any power from the US pacific NW for any reason. Site C dam,  have you heard of it? BC has and will have more firm power, with the existing grid to supply gas and oil and Haida Gwaii. All we need is a transmission line to main grid.

I don't have the transcripts, but at the 17th annual BC Natural Resource Forum in Prince George Jan 28th, 2020, the gust was that even with Site C Dam, it would not be able to meet future demand from industry. Some numbers were tossed around. Need at least 3X Site C dams 3GW. Someone posted on this forum numbers around Jan 30th, 2020. Unless the speaker(s) at the forum were over-optimistic, I& ...more

Then add in Federal Gov'ts plans for building a hydrogen sector in Canada. Can be produced using natural gas (grey) or use wind /hydro (green).  In Quebec they are trying green hydrogen, but require hydro--Quebec is a step closer to building one of the world’s largest green hydrogen plant. Hydro-Qubec awarded an engineering contract to a subsidiary of German industrial giant ...more

Regarding importing of electricity from US Pacific NW:BC power producers alarmed by plan to buy power from U.S. - Resources & Agriculture | Business in Vancouver (biv.com) Doesn't necessarily mean BC lacks electricity, but Bill 17 would effective shut out IPP's from contracting with BC Hydro. I don't know at what stage the Bill is now, or whether the fine print may allow for ...more

At the moment there is no pressing need to import electricity. As I had mentioned, this idea of importing has a longer term horizon.--- Question: Does Bill 17 mean the government can buy power from other jurisdictions and not have to buy power from First Nations independent power producers? A: Yes, no, but, and also. Yes, Bill 17 means that if and when (at some year in the future) BC Hydro ...more
