Nisga'a LNG on Pearse Island (EAO) and EUR wind problems

Another huge LNG project before the EAO now. With the Hard Cap in place this project may need 100% green energy unlike the 20% for LNG Canada now being built at Kitimat. BC Hydro simply cannot supply the 1000+ MW required for the Ksi Lisims LNG project.

Wind + more hydro will be needed in the NW BC. Alaska Hydro (AKH)
may be able to supply some but Naikun will be huge going forward under Northland.

Also this headline today from Europe.:

Sector hit by low wind speeds, supply chain blockages and higher raw material prices

Great background but dated on the Ksi Lisims project is here: DOGFISH BAY / WIL MILIT – SITING AND MARINE ACCESS (nisgaanation.ca) The current EAO applications is here: Nisga’a Nation and natural gas firms unite for the Ksi Lisims LNG project | BOE Report EPIC (gov.bc.ca)

Exactly. BC Hydro's transmission line has finite capacity to the NW of BC. Additional power must be provided locally or via a multi-billion dollar transmission line which would take up to a decade to approve and complete. Providing local power is the most practical and cost effective alternative. BC Hydro power would still be there acting as a backstop.

Yes, would require Alaska hydro to act as a backstop for the NW region. If BC Hydro's line has limited capacity and the wind slows down, it has to be able to keep all the power on. If not, then Alaska also has to help out for those times. I look at the region 50 years from today, there will be more industries requiring electricity.

As Oceanic states in their literature: The Company believes it will be some time before there is clarity on the development plans for the NW region of BC, and until those plans are understood there is uncertainty as to the future demand for electricity and the role that the wind project could play in meeting that demand. Dated July 8, 2021. The Ksi Lisims LNG project news came out July 19th. The ...more

The windfarm can't wait 7 years to get going. There has to be some other offtake deal in the meantime. It would take only 3 years to start producing electricity. The LNG project could be part of Stage 2 expansion. However for now, Oceanic management is confident something will be in the works in the near future. Ksi Lisims LNG is looking at a startup in late 2027 or 2028 and but of course ...more

Who is the 3rd party that will built and own the transmission line from BC Hydro's Skeena (or Nass Valley) substation to Lsi Kisims LNG? If it's not BC Hydro, nor a part of the LNG project itself? Interesting.
Comment by BayWall on Feb 01, 2022 2:15pm
I guess they probably mean BC Transmission Corp (Crown Corp) as the 3rd Party.
Comment by frankdatank13 on Feb 01, 2022 2:24pm
hope its not china, that would be pretty disapointing
Comment by BayWall on Feb 01, 2022 7:56pm
But BC Transmission Corp was consolidated into BC Hydro. So back to who is the 3rd party? Nowdays who knows. Warren Buffet? He already owns almost all transmission lines in Alberta. But that's his business success, " toll-bridge businesses". It can be a pipeline, transmission lines, railroads, etc.
