In review
I reviewed some of the comments the project first had in 2009 and later. To all who contributed many thanks. These will form the basis for further discussion.
Contributors included, Ted Brown, Barry Pages, Elvis Davis, Daphne White, The Friends of Hecate Strait, land defender Goot Ges, Roy Jones Jr., Lisa White, Jason Alsop Gaagwiis, Matt Burns and Mike O'Connor.
The wind project is a business decision, but not in a vacuum. A holisitic approach is desired. I see from Goot Ges that she wanted to see community and cultural regeneration, as well as a focus on social justice issues.
Concerns were about the placement of the windfarm and that the electricity produced would be used for LNG. Also mentioned the complex politics involved when industry and culture meet. (business/social)
For others it was enviromental issues, fishery livelihood, bird and whale migration, financial risks, the number of turbines and sight thereof, earthquke concerns, quality of business relationships and so forth.
I don't know how far the turbines will be from the shore, 20km was one distance mentioned.
Some of the questions about the original proposal can be found in archived issues of Haida Las. Sept 2009 and March 2010.
