Tariffs, technology, tea time.
Little off topic here, but in addition to Alaska LNG, Qatar had intentions since 2019 to go into carbon capture for its LNG industry.
With recent talk of having CO2 tariffs introduced in Euroipe and potentially around the world, Canada's competitive position will be impacted. The talk in BC how electricity powered generators will help LNG projects reduce carbon footprint take the headlines, but not C02 capture.
LNG Canada wondering if start Phase 2 with natural gas, then later change to electricity. They worry about the extra costs, etc. as if Phase Two depended on this.
CO2 capture at the producing source in north east BC could be a solution and even help out Phase One. Additionally, getting rid of nitrous oxide (N2O) from LNG would be helpful.
