Electricity requirements
Out of curiosity. NW LNG (Pacific) project was abandoned by Petronas, citing "uneconomic to move forward" and prices of LNG dropping. Also an issue about salmon's environment.
Ksi Lisims bought the pipeline from TC Energy which originally was mean't for the Pacific NW LNG project. Revised map now shows a modified branch route to the Ksi Lisims LNG project. The pipeline continues onto to Lelu Island area near Prince Rupert.
Will this portion to Prince Rupert still be built or be terminated at the Lisims LNG branch?
Can't see the future, but if Phase 2 of Canada LNG goes ahead, then maybe there is an expected market for LNG for years.
Pacific NW LNG project years ago had concerns expressed because of CO2 emissions, but if fully electric, that would take care of that.
-----------Regarding the Lsi Lisims project, The Narwal May 6,2024 wondered--"How and when the Ksi Lisims project will get access to hydro power remains unclear. BC Hydro is advancing a $3-billion transmission line that would transport power across northwest B.C. but questions remain about whether the province has enough power to supply projects like Ksi Lisims, who will pay for the line and whether it will be able to sidestep an environmental assessment."
---------------
I will add in, what if Pacific NW LNG gets a second look? Asian buyers want Canadian LNG now. The long-term market is there. Then where will the electricity come from? 1100MW would be required (entire Site C output). What about power for the rest of the province undergoing electrification.
There are those seriously looking at the Hecate offshore proposal as contributing to the emerging picture. Also why is Elemental Energy getting involved now. Something is moving this transaction.
Awaiting more details from Oceanic in the coming months
