dragonfly454 - question for you

dragonfly454 - you have provided much important insight into the play recently and that is much appreciated. Are you able to answer my question about the seismic showing the bottom of Santonian age being at 5500m but yet we are drilling to 6500m? I realize in exploration it might be beneficial to drill extra but that seems excessive. But even more pertinent is that if we are indeed at about 5000m, the next 3 weeks we should be drilling right through the primary target. Does tha make sense to you? Sorry to keep asking this but it is just not making sense to my non-drilling/seismic reading/geologist mind. TIA!

It's like NFL ..touchdown and a goal kick ..lol it's the nature of prospecting..the bottom of the Santonian is thereabouts at 5500 meters depth yep but we're not there yet so hang on to your sippy cup ...seems like share price also approaching the Santonian today ..probably just a bunch of swing traders catching some juice between 1.17 and 1.25 and then holding for the run up..no harm ...more

Maybe they are targeting deeper turonian zones? I know the maka, kwaskwasi wells and probably others Apache/total we're aiming to drill further into that zone but encounter high pressure. From press releases they said turonian looks promising and will likely test it it future wells. Most of oil discoveries in west africa are in the turonian if I am correct. The Guyana/Suriname basin is ...more

See slide 10 of the CGX Corentyne presentation "Depth Seismic Section". It appears both upper and lower Santonian targets are expected to be located between 6,000m to 6,500 meters. Clearly visible are the thick / stacked pay zones. The shallower campanian appears to be between 5,000m to 5,200m. We see some reflection - but, the Kawa cross section cuts out the feature altogether ...more

Not to get everyone too excited - but, if the campanian is expected to be encountered at just over 5,000 meters (as depicted on slide 10) you would likely want to set your intermediate casing string above the prospective reservoir to reduce potential reservoir damage and / or preserve integrity of your well logs / cores. Remember, data here is KING! I'll come back to this point at the end of ...more

With all due respect but reservoir damage and protection of data? WTF? That reservoir might flow at 90,000 bbl/ day like BP Macondo did in the GOM when they burned up the Deepwater Horizon.>p>Need data. What is the current mud weight? I was a mud man and I know that mud weight tells all. What mud weight are they currently drilling at?

With NO due respect are you challenging Oil Run's Geological knowledge dirkster. Go hang with clouder some more.
Comment by Dirksidetrack on Oct 13, 2021 9:43pm
Lol. No problem there lj. Nasty! Oh well. That's you at your core.

First up: What is released by the JV partners should be the only info we base decisions on ..but I don't think there will be another update before Oct 30th. Look at the slides here https://cgxenergy.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/Corentyne-Block-Website-04-November-2020.pdf at slide 9 see the strike line runs mostly SW (8 o'clock) from NE with a small piece of the line dipping SSW(7 o' ...more

So what's the current mud weight.
Comment by oldcompanyman on Oct 13, 2021 10:53pm
Hi Dirk, I have no idea about their current MW on Kawa as I (we) do not have any information from the rig. This being said, given that so many posts refer to Surinam B58, I have no problem stating that the well I was referring to in yesterday's post was a B58 well that they are about to test and it holds with 1.34SG (11.2ppg) brine at TD. A bit of an unconventional design in the sense that ...more

Yeah you need strong pipe to handle the differential when you open the well up to flow so that the pipe doesn't collapse. So if this is not an HTHP well then they can do an open hole DST. That 11.2 ppg brine is probably calcium chloride brine water cushion in the test string like we used a lot offshore Venezuela and Trinidad with Chevron on open hole DSTs that we did. But we needed 14 ppg ...more

Hi OIL_RUN, Thanks for clarifying the different horizons and the potential for drilling 2 distinct reservoirs (3 layers but 2 different formations and potentially pressure regimes), because otherwise some of our (my) thinking up to now was missing the bigger picture. I had so far expected them to set the 13-5/8" x 14" somewhere midway between the 3,300 that they declared in the press ...more

Just to complete on this one, I spent a whole hour today discussing this very subject with a drilling superintendent that I highly regard, who has a strong engineering background (I learned my trade on the rigfloor and am not degree-educated). The plan (or, say, what we as a community have so far inferred that CGX has as a plan) with drilling in the first reservoir with a 12-1/4" to then ...more

I agree with this assessment oldcompanyman. I think in the next 14 days they will encounter the campanian (secondary target). If LWD logs show encouraging signs - we could be here for a week or so running wireline logs, taking side wall cores, and perhaps contemplating a side track to obtain full bore cores. If side tracking, it could be two weeks. As they say the longer it takes - the ...more
