Birding is colourful and noisy Dfly. Darned guacamayas (macaws) wake me up at first light. Scandalous, screetching! They always travel in pairs. Male and female. Mate for life which is over 50 years I think. Loros (parrots) too. Plus other birds. Ocean it's pelicans and seagulls. Plus everywhere are ugly vultures riding the air currents high above. Get a lot of thermals here that they can ride ...more

Dirk based on what I was saying about two weeks ago ...re: the mud and karsts etc..can piezoelectricity generated by contaminants such as quartz etc and the mud mixes during drilling cause problems with the sensors on BHA ? Like give erroneous porosity and other thermogravimetery readings ? Affect pressure readings ? Probably too many sensors on these equipment ? Disruption of decision making ...more

Dfly good morning. I've never heard of it but I can't say for sure. When designing mud programs it's never been a factor when to be taken into consideration when I designed things.I do know that rotating steel creates a magnetic field though. The LWD people use non-ferrous sheilding, monel, if memory serves, in order to not generate magnetic fields near their sensors. Tesla, Guass etc ...more

Always good to have more expertise on board. However, too much Murphy emotions may lead to overthinking when things are actually going as planned. No need to stress out on things that possibly could go wrong. Just stick to facts.  So far, everything is going much better than we initially thought. The longer we have to wait on results, the better. We are on the right track, the rest is a ...more

Wait for the PR or try and speculate on what's going on. Nothing wrong with either approach. For me, this is not going as planned. Not necessarily a negative but why? I figure 1 of 2 reasons and probably a combo. 1. Drilling challenges; major rig repairs, fluid loss, tripping for bits that weren't designed for the rock they encounter and couldnt drill 100' in 24 hrs, maybe getting ...more

Yep, I remember Exxon VP of Exploration coming to Brazil, on their deep salt project, on the Seadrill West Polaris drill ship. He said exactly that. Take your time. Doing things twice takes more time. "WE HAVE LOT'S OF MONEY". Do things right the first time. No budget is the implication. Also, nobody gets blamed for screw-ups. We all learn from them. Lessons learned. That's why ...more

I should actually preface my previous comment with what Exxon VP said first. After Exxon Valdez oil spill in Alaska they did a company wide investigation and anslysis on our culture. He said "We found religion". What came out of it was essentially that even good people with good intentions screw up so give people the time and resources necessary to make the best decisions possible.

Dirk, you said it better than me. Brevity is the soul of wit. New Years Eve I kept having this overwhelming feeling that a major ie a JV was making the Kawa calls and slowing this thing to a crawl and spending $ like water. I took an alka seltzer and the feeling went away. Go kawa, Go cgx. Prosperous 2022 to all!

Thanks Sporty, I get the feeling that things will start moving very quickly soon. Guyana will put pressure on to fast track development. So if they have a commercial well there then CGX will need billions in order to develop it. Guyana is not going to let billions of barrels sit in the ground as stranded assets. So I'm wondering what's going on behind the scenes right now.

Happy New Years to everyone as well. But I really don't think Lacy and the rest of the drill dream team are taking any orders from anyone and I'm 100% sure that would be written right into their contracts. Other than perhaps some consultation with Apache/Total that have experience drilling very similar geology and are already for sure the JV. Otherwise they won't say nothing. JMHO ...more

Yeah overthink. What is overthink? Overthink is trying to figure out the outcome of the many paths that things can take from the same initial conditions. Why? Because no info is given about the path things are on.So people infer from scant info or for idiots like me to try to estimate probable outcomes. To me the glaring, wake me up by hitting me on the side of the head with a 2x4 question is why ...more

Welcome PlainviewOil and for your post to the board. Re the AFE cost overrun you make a pretty good point. Were we given a DHC AFE of 85 mil or was the 85 mil DHC + Compl? Others can chime in but I believed it was an estimate for total well costs (D&C). We are exceeding the drilling time estimate which on the face means we are over budget. Keep in mind there will be a brand new AFE to come ...more

85 would be a tad high for a dry hole cost, but pretty cheap for dry hole plus evaluation costs. I do know rig delays if there are any due to breaks or malfunctions right now can be amplified due to global shipping constraints. If they don't have parts locally at a dock it can be a while for replacements.  To be honest, depending on how the well was designed they may not even reuse it ...more
