CHANGE IN TIDE

What is the government of Guyana trying to message to the CGX / Frontera JV partnership?

Pre-Liza discovery - companies like CGX were the apple of Guyana's eye. The company could do no wrong after financially backing Guyana to cover their maritime border dispute.

Furthermore, the government of Guyana 'over the moon' that a small junior E&P would pursue wildcat exploration in a frontier basin - Horseshoe, Jaguar, Eagle.

The fact here is - the tide has changed. No surprises here as we watch a frontier offshore basin transition to one of the most exciting / prolific in the world.

Firms like CGX/Frontera (small junior E&Ps) don't really have a place in this basin anymore. They simply do not have the resources or capacity to advance their program forward. Again, are we listening?

Times have changed. The Guyana Government has clearly communicated their desire to partner with companies capable of developing offshore resources in a safe, low-cost, and timely manner.

CGX / Frontera - are you listening? Perhaps, try and formulate a plan that results is win-win for all parties involved.

The end game is clear. Consolidation is inevitable. It's time to ring the register and collect a few billion from a more capable party. Win-Win.

Great post. Do you think they are worth $1B now? Given the inconclusivity of commerciality of Kawa, I think they need to drill and find success in Wei to even get a $1B+ valuation - at least to preserve their rights to cortyene block.

Oil_Run, was Kawa a commercial discovery?

SportyJ, I don't even think the company knows the answer to this.  The well was drilled in the most optimal spot to hit multiple zones (which they did) and announced what they found.  I think if things were different and this wasn't a wildcat they would have put the drillbit smack dab in the middle of the best zone, and then could have said commercial or not.  Best guess is ...more

Thanks OIL_RUN. All this talk about consolidation, unitization, Exxon already producing and maybe keeping them out of the next bid round, got to think they may have an eye on Corentyne. Wonder how the port splits out from here, surely Exxon could use the port too, but it's interestingly split between the two companies under the CGX Energy umbrella.

It was "golden lane" they said. Sure thing. Like Jed Clampitt out rabbit hunting and out of the ground came bubbling crude. Sp supposed to hit $10 US last December. JV with a whale major. Grab your chair was the hype. OK, to be generous which I am, nobody knew what would happen Schteibzey. I'd simply like to know what happened. Oh they had " drilling chsllenges". Sounds ...more

If they drill above the salt mines where the US Strategic reserves are do you think they would find oil ? They might probably use some drilling fluid that dissolves the whole salt dome and have a treasure bath in debt...this is Monty Pythonesq..lol look out for Wei being touted as a Krabdaggu (dutch for crab dog aka Racoon) equivalent...probably more the equivalent of Amber Heard's daggu...

As a follow up... I suspect the decline in CGX share price may set the stage for Frontera to make an offer for the remaining 20% shares of CGX. I suspect this is at least one option that is being looked at by both companies.     Important note that may address other posts on this board - I highly doubt Frontera can make just any offer. I think they will have to come up ...more

Interesting, thanks again OIL_RUN.  Since they're close to 80% owned and CGX needs money for Wei,  would make better sense for FEC to consolidate before Wei drilling, especially with that COS. Am I wrong?
