It's an interesting concept.....

....but I'm just not convinced it will take off.

I have recently been on quite a few flights due to the nature of my work and the whole - get your temperature taken - thing is a big nothing burger.  All it means is that as you approach the gate some agent takes a temperature reading from your forehead before they scan your boarding card.  This takes literally a few seconds and, since you're in a line to get your boarding card scanned anyway, adds exactly nothing to the time it takes to board.  Yes, the airline needs to have a person to operate/take the temperature but if there was a thrermalpass machine they'd need someone to watch/operate that - no net savings.

As for schools and stadiums I see the same net effect - either a teacher scanning the kids before they get on the field to play or some minimum-wage employee temping people as they come through the gate.

IDK, having the theralpass machine might actually slow things down.  Think about it you could have 30 gates open, manned by a minimum-wage employee with a $50 thermometer but would they buy 30 thermalpass machines at 1000x the price?  Maybe they'd only buy 20 and the lineups are longer/slower.  I'm just guessing at the numbers - could be completely wrong but it seems like from a speed POV the theralpass would win but is the speed really needed?  From a cost POV the handheld thermometer wins and it really doesn't take much longer.

I'm not bashing, I bought ITT when the concept broke but have since sold - just don't see it taking off, sorry.

As you stated " could be completely wrong but it seems like from a speed POV the theralpass would win but is the speed really needed?" Yes you are completely wrong. speed and "time is money "is very inportant imagine being at a sporting event and an announcement stating the game is delayed by slow manual testing  or school classes are delayed by slow and usually ...more

colts123, thanks for your reply. To clarify;  at the airport they were actually taking temperatures 2 times: once before going through security screening and again at the gate.  In both cases ther was no impact on speed.  At security screening it took a few seconds to get temperature taken only to join the line and wait 10 minutes to get through the security procedure.  At the ...more
