Search Space example in the Iberian Pyrite Belt
Must read article by @siebebreed - Search Space example in the Iberian Pyrite Belt
"Recently, I wrote about the concept ‘Search Space’ and how it can help increase the odds of making a discovery. One possible search space is looking for deposits that are hidden under (shallow) cover, in belts where plenty of outcropping ore bodies have been found. This is how Las Cruces was found in 1994, in the far SW of the Iberian Pyrite Belt (IPB), near Sevilla. Rio Tinto drilled a large gravity anomaly and discovered what for a long time was the highest-grade open pit Cu mine in the world (soon transferring to u/g). After this discovery, Tim Moody (then Rio Tinto) was brought in to explore this specific search space - VMS deposits in the IPB under (shallow) cover. Few geologists know this search space, and its potential, as well as he does."
