RET vs RET.A

I doun't see the reason for the close to 30% difference in the prices of the 2 classes of stock. If you look back over the last year or two they trade fairly close together, In fact RET.A has been the more expensive stock for alot of the time. I think this is another mispricing that is happening now. If they ever declare dividends RET.A owners will get the same as the RET owners and the shares would trade offf of the implied yield. In my opinion the RET.A shares are a better value here. Also they are more liquid but in reality neither shares are that liquid. Our time will come.

When you look at Google as an example of a company that has voting and non-voting shares, there is almost no difference between the two.  This is because shareholders have confidence that the company is acting in their best interest and so do not prescribe a value to the actual vote itself. You only see these discrepancies when shareholders are putting a higher value on the voting power ...more

Imagine if Google executives awarded themselves over 4% of the company in stock options with Sundar taking 1%!  Haha!!! Instead Google is buying back stock. Alphabet's board of directors authorized $70 billion in share repurchases, a major step up from last year’s authorization of $50 billion and authorization of $25 billion in 2019. After the soft Q4 results I find myself suffering ...more

Canada Goose is reporting earnings later this week so that's one to look out for.  RET and GOOS track pretty closely together. I believe Q1 will be a softer quarter with a strong USD, inflation costs which will hit wages & transportation costs..  but I have a hard time forecasting demand. I also believe Q1 is the last quarter where you will see the government grants for Covid ...more

A lot of retail insiders think Reitmans is a dead brand.  A brand is not dead when its does 353M in gross profit at a 53% margin while management is distracted by bankruptcy.  If this year ends up with gross margins under 55% I will be very disappointed.  In the past when gross margins were under 55% the company was generally not profitable.  I should be profitable above 53 ...more

Flawed thinking as a retail investor your vote likely has no effect on the outcome of what you are voting on anyway just makes you feel like it does. So paying a premium for it is useless.

As retail, you're right.. there's no value to the vote to me as I can't be an activist shareholder which is why I'm in just Class A non-voting here.  It's more of value to the institutions who can obtain enough voting shares to have an impact. That's more of what I meant by the difference in value between voting & non-voting shares.  It's been a while ...more
