"Publication of Q4 numbers in April 2023 should provide the board an adequate basis to decide to reinstate a dividend payment."
Comment by TheCount11 on Apr 11, 2023 1:36pm
Not to be a pain but what are the Q4 numbers? That quote is not useful otherwise.

I think concentrating on the dividend reinstatement in conjuction with earnings is unwise.  It's just setting flippers up for disappointment and could cause the stock to sell off given the likelhood of it happening right now is relatively low.  The uplisting would and should always come before a dividend reinstatement.

Luckily, you're not the one that decides.  The burning question on everyone's mind is.... will it be 5 cents or 10 cents.
Comment by nedstar71 on Apr 11, 2023 2:14pm
No, I'm not the one that decides.  But common sense would dictate that if they were interested in giving the share price a boost, their first order of business would be to move back to the TSX.  And if they haven't even bothered to do that the chances of issuing a dividend while still on the V exchange are quite low imo.

Its not Reitmans its the TSX that decides if they return to the indice

Obviously Reitmans has to submit an application to uplist, and if they did qualifying would be a given.  The fact that they haven't bothered to do this already is concerning.  It should have been first on the agenda after emerging from creditor protection.
Comment by Trooper01 on Apr 11, 2023 3:09pm
Submit an appilcation with a market by then that was under 100M$.. that is not serious
Comment by nedstar71 on Apr 11, 2023 3:26pm
True, I should have said it should have been high priority, not first on the agenda.  Running the company should always take centre stage. Either way, they need to apply and would be approved without question, as would have been the case for the past year.  I highly doubt they will be paying a dividend while still listed on the V, if they can't even be bothered uplisting.  I' ...more

Not to mention the only way most reputable analysts would cover the stock is for it to be listed on the TSX, as well as certain funds etc being willing to own it.  It makes no sense for this to not have been initiated already, and would make even less sense to start paying out a dividend before most analysts are even able to cover it, or funds are able to own it.
Comment by pennylane101 on Apr 11, 2023 4:01pm
Is it so farfetched to assume that they could announce an uplisting to the TSX and a dividend at the same time?
Comment by nedstar71 on Apr 11, 2023 4:13pm
No, those combined would be an incredible event and if it happened the stock could very well gain 30 - 50% within the week following.  My main concern for starting this dialogue was to not set people up for disappointment.  Without the uplisting I think there is little chance of a dividend, because it would make no sense to do so.  No analyst coverage, most funds can't touch it ...more

I tend to agree. I took a position based on capital growth prospects. A dividend seems premature given the economy which could still spill into a recession. If they do announce one, the yield seekers will pile in and the stock will jump but then may flatline. If they hold off but announce good numbers, the stock will jump anyway. I say let the growth take us higher and then when that stabilizes ...more

I agree lack of volume shows there is no analysts/banks that cover or buying the stock, just retail they need a TSX request and fast, or maybe they want to privatize the company? Just speculating here..
Comment by CarefulSpec on Apr 11, 2023 4:09pm
I highly doubt they will be paying a dividend while still listed on the V, if they can't even be bothered uplisting.  I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong though. I don't know if a dividend is coming or not, and they could certainly announce both at the same time. That said the incentives here are different. An uplisting would be beneficial for the share price ...more
