A question for you legal experts.

If Maduro did obtain a hearing by the Supreme Court, would it be possible for the SC to rule, in complete contradiction to US foreign policy, that what is plainly the de facto government in VZ is also the de jure one. In the unlikely event of this happening, it would presumably negate all previous judgements.

The US Supreme Court will not take this case for review, never mind  entertain a judgement ruling. Maduro has absolutely no standing to appeal this lower court ruling. Maduro/his government isn't even recognized by the US Political/Judical system. So one can fret all they like, but this is a done deal save the sale/dispersement of Citgo assets.  Maduro is in a corner without any ...more

Thanks Orb. Yes, the US government of course doesn't recognise the Maduro gov and ironically and on account of the apparent mismanagement of the Citgo cash by Guaido it looks as though there will be a successful auction shortly. But is the Judicial system subject to government dictates on foreign policy ? I am not a lawyer but surely its purpose is to protect the laws of the land to which ...more

be careful. it's not a foregone conclusion that the supreme court won't entertain taking this case. this is big and serious and even precedential.  for us to think this is frivilous isn't wise.

My thoughts are that if Maduro could find a sympathetic ear in the legal system, he has a strong argument that Guaido's actions that led to the rulings were illegitimate. However I'm an eye for an eye, kinda guy so if VZ can arbitrarily steal our assets, we can steal theirs.

I'm no legal expert, but I do know they take 1.5% of cases that are submitted. Don't see them hearing this nonsense.
