Potash is a crucial element in the production of fertilizers. The potassium-rich compound is known to play a crucial role in improving crop yield, quality, and resilience to pestilence. Despite this, the US is lacking in domestic potash production, currently importing 95% of its potash supply. Sage Potash Corp (TSX.V: SAGE) is looking to change this.
SAGE controls the Sage Plain Potash Project in Utah's Paradox Basin, an area known to host large world-class potash resources. The Paradox Basin is estimated to contain 2 billion tons of potash and SAGE's project in particular is expected by many to be the largest untapped potash deposit in the United States.
A technical report has been produced for Sage Plain which estimates that the project has a combined resource in its upper and lower potash beds of 279.5 million metric tonnes of Sylvinite Potash.
SAGE recently announced that it had expanded the Sage Plain Project by acquiring 5,118.78 acres of private leases in addition to its existing land portfolio. This brings the total landholdings of the project to 88,118.78 acres, representing a 6% increase in the total land package.
SAGE CEO, Peter Hogendoorn, stated that the acquisition is a significant step forward in the project's development, allowing for increased resources and future surface infrastructure planning.
