Reverse Split

Presumably they are setting up for a reverse split - to get the house in order - and then announce financing deal of one sort or another.
Time will tell.

I suppose the other option is that they are getting the "house in order" to sell the company.

I can go for that. Lots of M&A taking place these days. MAG diversifying away from silver to purchasing a Canada gold miner being the most recent that I have seen.
