Silly valuation!

Hey, All,

How's everyone doing?  I haven't posted recently, as the market continues to hammer the PM juniors (including SMD).  But now?  As far as I'm concerned, the market value of SMD is so silly I am compelled to comment...

As far as I can determine, the market valuation for SMD is now BELOW the value of just two its portfolio companies: Broden Mining and Terra CO2.  Apparently, the value of its cash on hand, five other portfolio companies, their investment fund, and the over 100 stellar properties they own for option (mostly in the Yukon) are all worth LESS THAN ZERO?

The last time SMD shares got this low (last Fall), CEO Doug Eaton bought upwards of a million shares in the open market.  He's buying again:

IMNSVHO (In My Not So Very Humble Opinion), SMD is the most compelling buy in its history.  I've bought as much as I can and had sell some of other investments I hold dear to do so. SMD is now ~46% of my portfolio.  I'm no Warren Buffett, but also concentrate my investments into companies I really like.  Buffett once commented on his investment style by quoting Mae West:  "Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!"

Sure, SMD could go lower if the junior PM markets continue to get monkey hammered. But in the long run (which finally may not be that far off) - when SMD is valued properly - I think it'll amaze us all.

........... on the long run, haha. I'm here  12 or 14 years. The share price was - if I remember this right - at over 3 Dollar and Gold was also around 1850. In the meantime SMD lost over 90% of their shareprice. The job of Doug Eaton and his gang is to deliver SHAREHOLDER VALUE. If I would have delivered this shitty performance in my job, they would have fired me 10 times. But instead ...more

I have been involved in gold/silver off and on for 50 years.  I was fascinmated by small miners in the 1960's who's stock price went from $.04 to $400.00 a share.  The real information was not readily available so  the wheeler dealers could run the stocks to unrealistic levels..Eventually the pendulum swings in the other way and the stocks eventually are underpriced.  ...more

I'm in the U.S., so I value stocks using the USD.  At the current bid (C$0.235), SMD has a market cap of ~US$20mm. SMD owns 15mm shares of Terra CO2 that, given the value accorded Terrs's second round of financing completed earlier this year, are valued at ~US$15mm.  Add in the 5mm warrants SMD owns (exercisable at C$0.25) and BINGO! SMD's investment in Terra CO2 is roughly ...more

Fortunate..well written but you probably won't get much competition buying this stock until the market changes. Let's hope it's soon but we may need a black swan event which hurts a lot of people... could buy a few more if it keeps dropping.. good luck.

SMD has over $100 of resources per share and the value of the stock is less than $.25 per share. SMD owns 40% of Broden Mining (after including SMD's ownershio of other companies 5%)  Broden Mining Resources  listed on internet zinc 5.4 B lbs, gold 870,000 oz., 111 M oz silver and 3.54 B lbs of lead.  I come up with $18 B total.  40% = $7B or $54 a share.  The ...more

I agree that Broden could have some potential. But what happened YTD? I have seen NOTHING despite this announcement: ***"Broden Mining – expects to sign property transfer agreements soon and is working on an updated resource and a PEA."*** If I remember right, this should have happened during spring. I'm with the news flow not happy. I'm still holding ove 300K shares (since ...more

I would have liked to see SMD drill something this year but with the way things are it would have been money wasted.  Instead they have a low key exploration program on 3 very prospective properties, anyone of which could be a winner.  Hopefully this program will build suspense for future drilling.  Take a look at the June 2 /22 NR.  Mint has a 300M in diameter target with a ...more

I think the problem here is that we're in an economy where if a recession happens, then all metals consequently drop. So a lot of these property holdings, end up being non economical at lower price pointS, i mean just look t silver, everyone was expecting it to fly, and it is now sitting at 18? 19? $. So I think that we could be in for another metals winter.  Also their Terra holding ...more

I even sold half my position when it hit close to 50cents. Granted, I wasn't expecting the downturn to be this bad, but in retrospect, I think I saved myself some paper. I think this recession will be on the moderately bad side, and that people are a little too optimistic. There are a lot of companies trading for pennies on the dollar too, but I try to keep faith here, inspite of some of my ...more
