New Breathalyzer Test

First of all thank you Watchman for a very thorough examination of the FDA "scene" as applies to rapid antigen covid tests ....and how it applies to AcuVid. I've been following your posts on CEO as well.

To that end there has been a flurry of discussion surrounding this recently FDA approved Covid Breathalyzer Test ....and the response to it by bashers and those failing to do a little DD. This will in NO WAY impact on the rapid antigen test market for most niches and certainly should have no impact on an FDA EUA for AcuVid.

Some interesting facts!

* the machine is highly complex and thus expensive

The company anticipates leasing test devices to companies and within industries ideal for en masse screening, as would be appropriate within the health care industry, such as nursing homes, prisons and the travel and hospitality industry, such as cruise lines, and perhaps schools. Redmond said the company expects leasing agreements to cost between $25,000 and $30,000 per month, which is why this would be most appropriate for that "volume play" setting.

* the machine requires trained health care professionals

* on a daily basis the quantity of testing is extremely limited

Each device can each be used to evaluate approximately 160 samples per day. At this level of production, testing capacity using the InspectIR COVID-19 Breathalyzer is expected to increase by approximately 64,000 samples per month.

InspectIR Systems aims to produce roughly 100 test devices per week, with 10 made so far, Kaiser told ABC News. In the next month, they expect to have roughly 250 test devices ready to go and say they will be making "as many as the line can hold.

While it's a fascinating modern development of an old technology it has significant limitations ...not the least of which is that users are encouraged to get a PCR test if they test positive using this device. One of the suggestions for use was the travel industry ....as an example how many of these devices would a cruise line or port require???

@smokey1958. Agreed it's a fascinating tech and will get smaller over time.  There's plenty of opportunity for all type of rapid test makers of Covid-19, Influenza A, Influenza B and other viruses on horizon.  None of these are going away anytime soon, and with testing even more available today, it will only help mitigate spread for years to come.GLTA

One has to wonder what the turn around time is between uses for this breathilizer  test.  If you have a lot of people lined up, waiting to be tested the unit would have to be sterilized between uses.  How long does that take?  How many units would testers have to have on site so that the units could be changed out.  As one unit is being used another is being sterilized ...more
