Wecommerce is mentioned in passing as an example of an opporunity to invest in a smaller company that is part of the Shopify ecosystem. Problem I am having is that it appears as though most of WE's revenue isn't currently associated with Shopify, it comes from ad agency and design work. The recurring revenue from app sales appears to be less than 20% of the business.

Aside from someone saying that WE is a good pick because it is smaller than SHOP I would be interesting in hearing why you think this is a buy given its current valuation at 40x revenue.

SHOP trades at 72x sales. Lots of other American SaaS or eCommerce companies trade around 40x sales.  40x sales is very expensive by any historical standard but these companies are growing extremely fast, especially since COVID started. If the growth continues the sales multiple will come down. That is the expectation. If they don't grow fast enough, the market will punish them. If ...more

Thanks for the response. SHOP is 44x Q3 run rate revenue which is the same basis I used for WE. The YoY revenue growth is 96%. We cannot easily determine YoY growth with WE as they acquired two companies in the period. If we look at quarterly Q2 to Q3 growth we see the digital busines growing 3.9% and the agency business declining about 4.7%. As Foursixty was acquired in Q2 it is hard to do a ...more

I suspect we should see some QoQ growth from the core businesses in WE. They are one of the best operators within the Shopify ecosystem so shopify's growth should trickle down to WE's businesses as well. I doubt it will grow at the same rate as SHOP though.  The market is clearly giving management at WE a lot of good will.  I think there's an assumption that they will ...more

Good feedback thanks. We will see the Q4 and Q1 numbers in the next few months and then be able to extrapolate growth. I would think they are going to have to be able to show organic growth north of 30% YoY to keep interest at these levels. Problem using stock as cash on the venture exchange are the lockup periods, lack of liquidity, and volatility. With so many VC's and PE funds awash in ...more
