OT - BTC

Could someone, without being condescending (tough ask on the Internet),  please explain to me in layman's terms why lines of computer code are so valuable?

I'm banging my head on this.

Just because they're devaluing fiat currency at a record pace doesn't mean anything and everything else is valuable.

I still just don't get it.

XRP is down about 17% this morning. The top 20 being down 10 - 20% and the top 100 looking much the same. Just takes a few words from U.S gov about regulations and taxes to dump the whole works -- just like stocks.

https://ripple.com/ I almost bought Bitcoin for .52cents USD but was scared off by Mt. Gox hack ($450mill lost). Bitcoin/blockchain is math code mined by computers video card or mined by ASIC (mostly in China). It is traded like stock or commodities and perceived as being digital gold. Traders can remain anonymous so it is useful for illegal purposes. I bought tens of thousands of XRP for ...more

Because there will only ever be 21 million Bitcoin ever mined, there is a percived value of rareity.  Many BTC have been lost (forgotten passwords, destroyed hard drives/wallets, dead people, etc).  Art, vintage cares, Antiques, baseball cards, basketball cars, hell, even Pokemon cards which are rare are extremely valuable because they are rare.  BTC, unlike gold, can be moved ...more

And there is one called Pirate Chain (ARRR) that was 15 cents on April 13 and is now $15 on April 23.  A little better return than TLT sadly.

Thats nothing.  Look at this madness, pull out to one week; https://www.coinbase.com/price/capital-x-cell

Check now and then, but come back around October when the lockup period expires.

Sorry, meant that advice for coinbase investors
Comment by Pandora on Apr 23, 2021 9:02pm
That is certainly a different look than the capital-x-cell chart from Coingecko https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/capital-x-cell And also the Stockhouse Coinlore site which compares to Coingecko.

I only trust coinbase pricing but that is very interesting

Maybe you can find this fonestar guy and have him finance the whole #VEGAS2022 party we will be having ;) Still holding pattern, don't get my hopes up on 2 or 3 cents either way, waiting for the big explosion. Oh, and I know I beat this one to death, but why no TLD-1633 mentioned any more. Have they dropped this avenue for now ? I would ask at AGM if ever allowed to gather again. Coop ====== ...more

This is the type of thing I see all the time and adds to my confusion. Q - "Could someone please explain why lines of code are computer code are valuable?" A -  BUY DOGECOIN (unlimited supply started as a joke) because Elon says so. Like I said, just don't get it.

I just dont get it ether.Never did understand Bitcoin.Too old I suppose. Whoever chooses to comply with Bunges request , would you please explain it in toddlers terms so that even I will understand.?
Comment by Rumpl3StiltSkin on Apr 23, 2021 9:40am
Why indeed? My take is it is as simple as because people have determined it to be valuable. Of course it has no intrensic value the way gold or an old Ferrarri does. It wont be worth anything in a Zombie Apocalypse. No Computers, no electricity??? Maybe the offline 'coins' written down as code will still be worth something??? The Islanders of Micronesia around Yap used to value giant ...more

If scarcity is the key I could always start selling my morning poops. Only one produced and day and very limited supply. If I die tomorrow NONE will ever be available again. Private message me for my Ebay listing if anyone interested.

I hope the Zombie Apocalypse 'gets me' before society, in any meaningful way, values your poop. No offense.

Rumpl have you been to Yap? Interesting place. Especially if you like beetljuice. My son worked there as a diver/photographer for 3 years.

The REAL reason Bitcoin is valuable is that it's an untraceable way to buy illegal stuff on the dark web.... Which makes it a great medium for money-laundering. There. Someone had to say it.

>> The REAL reason Bitcoin is valuable is that it's an untraceable  this is true.  the younger generation views it as the modern day gold, which is the traditional way of hiding money (from the government.) However, unlike bitcoin, the government doesn't ask you on your tax return if you bought any gold last year.  And there's a reason they ask you if you ...more
