Unofficial Trials

Can a small company with limited funds do a few human trials in a third world country.
At least to prove a concept works.
Perhsps do in patients that have cancer and no further options .
Just thinking..

I think it is certainly do-able.  All you need would be a research facility or teaching hospital in a working partnership.  Let them deal with the local approvals in that country.  Perhaps share the rights to marketing the final product in their country.  Or Theralase could sell their patents outright along with the marketing rights for cash and let the partnering Hospital or ...more

So if I or you were dying from cancer wouldnt we give almost anything a try..Or it could be a child of ours or loved one. It would be very arrogant znd even unethical for some high up official to deny us that.. Maybe next time it would be his family member or him. Will he still not bend... Not that we would need his approval.

No. Doing so comes across as very ethically dodgy. If you do a trial in many locations, that happen to include a third world country then that would be ok. Doing it by itself in some place would make the company look like they went somewhere where they could bribe researchers, regulators and all the data would be suspect. Plus doing it that way would make the company look sleazy. I know it would ...more

So you want to bypass first world safety standards for people in poor countries.
Comment by CAinPlap on Jul 16, 2024 3:33pm
Normally one would say obviously no but if we already knew it was safe.... World class safety standards? The same ones that approved Covid Vaccines? Buried/ridiculed Ivermectin as a treatment option? Sure glad I don't live in a 3rd world country that isn't protected by these same world class safety standards. ;)   Am I really advocating for rushing to a 3rd world country near you ...more

I don't think there is anything to be gained bypassing the safety protocols.  Further getting the trials done in Taiwan, South Korea, Turkey,Singapore or India are not really third world countries.  They have many state of the Art Medical facilities with highly qualified and skilled Doctors who will maintain the same high standards that we expect in Canada or U.S.A.   This ...more

Not suggesting a full scale third world operation. But just enough treatments to really prove something works.. Than a deep pocket partner might come running with cash. Plus some  third world persons might get a new lease on life. Everyone wins.

Nothing makes this a good idea. Not smart, and more than a little racist.
Comment by TimboBaggins on Jul 16, 2024 3:58pm
this was talked about years ago. Instead of doing things properly just treat patients on a ship off the caiman islands.  The consensus was that everything accomplished would not count for anything in the scientific world.
