VUGGY SILICA

Vuggy Silica

One of the hallmarks of an epithermal deposit is the presence of vuggy silica that was formed in the advanced argillic alteration zone near surface. Vuggy silica zones are found extensively at Thor along the top of the epithermal deposit and commonly contain very elevated gold content. Examples at Thor include the SIF, SIF-Carbon and Broadview Mine area.

Vuggy silica zones typically do not contain elevated base metal or silver values, but always contain extensive iron-oxide alteration (Goethite).
