Because Pip asked, Bokan deposit
Dear Pip,
This is just off the top of my head. Weather moved in and I am aching today. So no in depth reseach.
As I understand it Bokan deposit is 6% REE and over half of that 6% is the heavy ones that you use to make magnets.
Mountain pass is a light REE mine with just a little of the heavies. They would have to able to do the last 10% of separation and not have to send off to China for DOD to really take a interest.
Round top is a big mineral deposit that has one or two percent REE and mostly light REE. You would make money off the other minerals in the deposit using the REE to get the mine open and working.
Wy is the same way mostly light REE.
Now there are smaller mines that mine other minerals that have a little REE and once or twice a year they send off to China a REE concertate for separation. One of them might be higher in heavies but I have not hear of any that are.
USG is looking for a way to bust China's control of REE market and will spend money to find it. But that means that they will need a heavy REE mine to do it. Ucore holds the only deposit that meets USG long term needs.
