Greener way for REE separation

Only question I had after reading this article was the protein sticking to the REE group or one REE element?

Both. This is the lanmodulin molecule or protein that I mentioned some weeks ago. Certain bacteria extract REEs with exquisite selectivity and use it - REE-obligates. Related to calmodulin, a calcium extractor. We do similar things - we pull out chromium and use it in the center of our insulin molecule. Lanmodulin is REE non-specific, but can be used in lab to separate different REEs by some ...more

Pip, This one might surprise you. Key question is cost of the lanmodulin molecule. How efficiently can you make it in a bioreactor. I also am skeptical about the "breakthrough of the week" hypes. But let's just say that I know a bit about this one, even if my last DoE proposal was not funded.

Hi Pip, Ligand assisted chromatography is a well established separations technique. It certainly works on REEs at laboratory or bench scale. The question, as always, is whether it scales up to pilot plant and ultimately field deployment at an economic CAPEX and OPEX. Also, what range of PLSs, i.e., compositions, pH, TDS, etc. is amenable. Hi Aus, Whatever you believe are his shortcomings (like ...more

Jack blows with the prevailing wind, wherever he can get some attention.  His mea culpa with the Magic Pudding was hilarious, couldn't believe he fessed that up so blantantly, go look again at the videos he did pumping MRT like crazy, that people here STILL cling to, then we find out he saw nothing, only from a distance, and wasn't even sure the thing was switched on!!! The " ...more

Hi Aus, Jack has served on a number of REE company boards. In that role he gives the company advice and sometimes provides publicity that emphasizes the "positives." It's just business.... Jack does provide some good insights on InvestorIntel.

Nick, Jack knows far more about REE than I ever will, sounds like you do as well, he's also had a lot of experience CM at specific points of the supply chain but that expertise is largely limited to those points of contact so when he strays too far he quickly resorts to conjecture, to put it kindly. Mind you he's certainly not on his own there, I could say more but probably serves little ...more
