Dear Bob

Dear Bob,
You know what that means don't you?  It will boil down to which is cheaper, faster to produce, and who make can make custom blends of REE oxides to orders.  Ucore has never said that it wanted to get in the magnet maker market, only sell to the magnet makers the custom blends of oxides they wanted.  You are right there is more than enough room for both MP and Ucore.
Is MP going to separate other mines REEs or just their own?
Could you post a link to an article that talks about this new plant you say is coming on line in 2022?
China make how many tons of REE each year?
How many tons are needed to supply NA ?

The best material on MP's plans are in the presdentations and 2022 earnings calls (listed to the audio to get the best info)  at https://investors.mpmaterials.com/events-and-presentations/default.aspx . I don't think MP haqs any need or plans to separate light REEs mined at other than Mountain Pass, but it probably could if it wanted to I think MP is leaving options open regarding ...more

Typo (missing the "K"): was supposed to be "I believe MP can expand beyond 20K tons per annum light separation if they want, but that will cost mone"

Has an overview of MP's plans, but not very in depth. Dec 14 Politico Magazine article "China Dominates the Rare Earths Market. This U.S. Mine Is Trying to Change That"

If Ucore's entire market cap (UCU.V + UURAF) were invested in MP Materials, that would be about 3 1/2 trading hours worth of  MP Materials trading.

MP makinhg good money sending concentrate to Chinafor separation. Should make much more w./in a year when Mountain Pass separation fully running. More profits in 2025 w/ magnets. Of course, subject to REE prices for exact level of profitability.

There is some Dysprosium and Terbium in the SEG+ concentrate Molycorp, and now MP Materials produces from Mountain Pass mine. I think MP will buy some Heavy feedstock to supplement that to have enough for planned magnet production - that was discussed in I think 2022 Q1 earnings call. Given much higher price for Terbium than Dysprosium, it would probably make more sense for MP to sell Ternium it ...more

As to how MP "suddenly" has the expertise to do what Molycorp didn't succeed at (Molycorp separation plant never operated properly)? Yes, MP has not yet proven it will succeed. it better get the separation plant running in 2023. How MP  has more expertise than Molycorp? It has a smart CEO, Litinsky, not a moron like Mark Smith, who drank some of his own kool-aid. And Litinsky ...more

Doesn't China own a big chunk of MP?
Comment by VeritasBob on Dec 15, 2022 4:01pm
Shenghe Resources, which MP Materisls sells its concentrate to (but will phase out in 2023 as Mountain Pass separation plant get to full capacity), has about 7.7% ownershop stake in MP. That caused concern for Alaska Senator Lisa Murkpwski earlier this year, perhaps because she wanted to favor Ucore which she thought or hoped would open Bokan abd build SMC at Ketchikan. Now, that it's ...more

ScienceNews article on Mountain Pass & more generally rare earth mining,& processing. Mentions new ligand from Oak Ridge National Lab in 2022, but not RSX or Ucore.  ScienceNews: Rare earth mining may be key to our renewable energy future. But at what cost?
