Toronto Stock Exchange (Venture) Symbol: "WND"
OTCQX Symbol: "WNDEF"
Issued and Outstanding: 62,582,641

VANCOUVER, March 12, 2012 /CNW/ - Western Wind Energy Corp. - (Toronto Venture Exchange - "WND") (OTCQX - "WNDEF"), is pleased to announce that Windstar commenced commercial operations on January 27, 2012, which was declared the Initial Operations Date.  The achievement of commercial operations initiates our energy sales sold to the Utility and our Windstar project is subject to performance guarantees as negotiated with our turbine supply vendor.

Western Wind is now in the position to file for its cash grant application with the US Treasury under Section 1603. The cash grant is a US Federal Government program to encourage renewable energy development through a 30% cash grant paid by the US Department of Energy and is part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 ("Treasury Grant").  The Company estimates the cash grant submittal to be roughly $90 million, which is subject to review and approval from the Department of Treasury.

Jeff Ciachurski, President of Western Wind Energy states, "We are extremely pleased by the full commissioning of Windstar.  Since January 27, 2012, we have now been receiving revenue from four fully owned renewable energy projects in California and Arizona.  This is a transitional time for Western Wind, as we evolve into a significant power producer of renewable energy.  We would like to thank our employees, stakeholders and business partners for the patience and cooperation in bringing online this transformational asset."

Excellent news.  Revenue is coming.  Why did they wait until mid-march to announce this?

Hrm, interesting NR, not too sure what to make of it. I believe they received the certificate of completion just now. I'm still curious to know if all the turbines are up and actually running however. The completion date may have been Jan 27; but as we all know, about half the turbines were impacted from the SCE maintenance outtage, and from what we heard last week, there were still some ...more

I wouldn't expect it to move the share price.  This was expected and most people probably have taken WND off their radar because its been so boring...  But I still think its good news that they are generating revenue and will be able to apply for the grant.  Means the next quarter could look pretty good, and that should get people's attention.

We've been hammered the last 2 months because lack of any type of communication. We finally get some and e price should not move? Let's hope you our wrong otherwise we will keep falling ......
Comment by Xtrykr0 on Mar 12, 2012 2:31pm
Logically, there is no reason for the price to fall. It'd be nice if we traded back in the $1.80 range. But yeah, manipulation manipulation manipulation. Sell on high volume, end day on uptick with low volume.

I don't think communication alone will move this stock.  I really think we are at the point that we either need to see positive cash flow or significant progress on other projects.  I'm just saying - News of Windstar being up and running is not surprising, its actually a bit late.  Theres no reason to expect that this alone will reverse the trend, maybe stabilize us in the ...more

I think that's what I've been trying to re-iterate all along, was that this stock should be trading at a range that is at the very least respectful and takes into consideration of the value of the assets we currently have in production. I do not believe we should be trading at a large discount to this, especially since we are already generating revenue from these facilities. It should be a ...more

X I like your post. Last year we reported Q2 on August 16. So at 2.40 we would be roughly 40 % higher from here on that same date 2012. Having said that, I don't like today' s volume which is less than Friday's. An so is the SP. Not good.
Comment by fulzy on Mar 12, 2012 4:35pm
I really think the drop was due to a lack of interesting news from the company after the AQN fiasco.  That caught a bunch of short term investors' attention and then no substantial news for two months made them lose interest.  You're right, I think we should see the share price move from here if we can string some news together over the next few weeks.  But this is a boring ...more

If the short term investors wanted out, they would be dumping this stock, but it's not happening considering the very low volume. I think there are certain powers at work that cannot be explained with conventional trading/investment behavior. You would think with 3 weeks of down selling, that this stock would at the very least spark some interest in new investors, but that has happened.
Comment by fulzy on Mar 12, 2012 4:58pm
But nothing has happened to spark their interest really, the last really substantial NR was at the beginning of January.  How can y ou attract new investors if you aren't creating any news?  This is after all the Venture Exchange.  Half the battle here is promotion.... I'm not digging at management, I think they are doing fine, but I'm pretty long here.  I'll ...more

A few things I've noticed are. The news report basically said what we already know so I wouldn't expect a volume or sp surge today. Also I can see people jumping out who jumped in on the BNN bounce a month ago that sent the price from mid 1.80's into mid 1.90's who would be speculaters to the buy side and would look for another opertunity quickly. I'm "less" concerned ...more

I just want to thank whomever let me have their shares at $1.67 today! Yeah this is a boring stock but I have been in it for many years and find that if you pick your buying moments the rewards from volatily can be very good. Here's to hoping someone will sell to me again tomorow for less than I paid today. I still have some money left!! GLTL Russ
