Hello, I've been lurking on the board for some time and am in WND at a little under $2.  I like the valuation prospects of the proposed company sale and am hoping for at least $4.  The link to the Canaccord document posted by dirac does present a point of view by Bay Street which is a bit concerning though: that perhaps Brookfield has the intention of siding with the dissidents in ...more

Pandnh4,   All the more reason to vote with the current Board and CEO who are the only parties to keep Brookfield honest.  Dissidents already capped the price at $2.50 so a dissident Board would allow Brookfield to strip assets.  Vote the yellow proxy and let Brookfield sell their investment along with the rest of us for a big profit. Analyst on Bay Street know the Brookfield ...more

no matter what side of the trade brookfield or crookfield is on means nothing because there is a grace period in wich other firms can come in and up the offer above and beyond any price that is approved or reccomended by a board of directors   Personally I believe this situation will be clearer prior to the agm

My personal opinion is that Brooksfield is an independent player in this. They know these assets are undervalued, but by no means are they prepared to just gobble up the whole company. They are on the fence, making a side bet on what will unfold for WND in the coming months. They had indicated in their NR that they may hold and accumulate WND shares for long term, or liquidate all their holdings ...more

Thanks for your input.  Is it not possible though that Brookfield could benefit in multiple ways by siding with the dissidents now that they have about 16% of the company and the proxy vote?  First, they get an upside in the stock price, although capped, through their share purchase and the warrants.  Second, they could pick and choose the assets they want through an agreement with ...more

Goodman was in a conflicted position due to holding high interest loans on WND. There are issues in law when the interest of equity and debt compete within the same party.  Goodman washed their hands and called it a day IMHO

I dont think there's any ways that anyone could buy over 10 million shares in the open market and not have the share price go above $2.25. The agreement that the "vendors" agreed to is very good for both parties. The "vendor" has locked in their profit while maintaining a portion of the potential upside from a sale. My guess would be that the "vendors" ...more

Fair point, it would indeed be tough to acquire that position without an arranged sale behind the curtains. Now, the following article suggests that Brookfield did this for its US taxable income:https://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-08-29/brookfield-renewable-acquires-16-dot-2-percent-of-western-wind-shares It may therefore be possible that Brookfield isn't doing this for a quick investment ...more

Welcome pandanh   Wow you have been here 2 hours and you have quite an opinion. Btw where is um ??

I believe Brookfield wants the whole company including Yabucoa for its lucrative tax credits. Smooth move acquiring 16% in this transaction. Next bidder will be.....???????

3 things: - Brookfield are no crooks, they run a legitimate business and wo'nt want anything to do with Savitr.    Above that, they know what the assets are worth and won't be interested in a capped price of 2.50, not by far. - Brookfield wouldn't have been able to buy that many shares at open market during the past few months.   If they would have, the price would be 2 ...more

fact of the matter is goodman would have voyed yellow in the first place so really the votes are a mute point however it lets the disedents know that a bid higher than 2.50 .share is forthcoming either from brookfield or an utility out of the osa

Peter to answer your charge you were unfairly attacked. You appeared after a rogues gallery of wackos and scumbags. You're a nice guy with level headed thinking. I hope you make a ton of money.

Thank you for your kind words, must admit I did walk into a hornets nest however the boards passion for this stock gave me the wear with all to stay the course

Thanks for your welcome, I do hope it was sincere.  I'm not sure what you're insinuating about me just joining but  I already mentioned that I've been lurking for a while since I acquired my WND shares last month. As for my opinions, I think they're all quite valid and it's not unreasonable to look at investments from all angles, unless you want to lose money.  I ...more

Hey bart, was it confirmed that Goodman was in fact the Vendor to Brookfield?  At the risk of being unfairly called out for this fair question, I'm just curious if they were the only shareholder with a large enough position to sell that many shares to Brookfield, and if it's been confirmed.  Or is it just speculation at this point? Thanks.
Comment by impega on Aug 31, 2012 9:56am
pandnh4, do you think the purchase by Brookfield was from someone else? If so who?
Comment by bart_dc on Aug 31, 2012 10:02am
It was confirmed by IR that it was the Goodman block that is sold. B
Comment by pandnh4 on Aug 31, 2012 11:24am
Thanks bart.  I spoke with IR who didn't affirm for sure who it was but strongly suggested that it was Goodman who sold, and he believes that this closed out their position in WND. We discussed the sale process, and he mentioned it would be unlikely that any formal bids would be received by the AGM, but it was expected that Brookfield would be one of the bidders, and that they had a good ...more

The "lowest" price does no exist as the WND stock has been heavily manipulated down for God knows how many years... The core of the WND holders and supporters will only let go of this company at a fair price. You can't take over the company with 49% of the shares that are exchanging hands and being butchered by the manipulators. Also, Brookfield ain't here to play games, if what ...more

Yes, Lawrence from IR mentioned that Jeff and Brookfield used to meet regularly and have been close for some time, although they haven't been in communication recently, presumably in order to not create any potential legal issues for their acquisition of the WND shares from Goodman.
