Ontario's Red Lake district boasts a rich history in gold mining, having yielded over 30 million ounces of gold from high-grade zones and hosting significant deposits. West Red Lake Gold Mines (Ticker: WRLG.v or WRLGF for US investors) holds control over the Madsen Gold Mine and the Rowan Gold Property in this historic district.
Madsen stands out as WRLG's flagship project, distinguished by its financial soundness and full authorization, featuring a cutting-edge mill processing over 800 tonnes per day. The Rowan project, part of WRLG's comprehensive portfolio, encompasses the past-producing gold mines Rowan, Mount Jamie, and Red Summit.
Yesterday, WRLG shared positive outcomes from metallurgical tests conducted on the Rowan Mine Deposit, a pivotal area within the Rowan Property. The results indicate the coarse nature of the gold deposit, aligning with findings at Madsen and satellite deposits, underscoring the geological richness of the region.
Metallurgical tests on Rowan Master Composites confirm the feasibility of processing Rowan vein material through the Madsen Mill with minimal adjustments to the existing flowsheet. The results reveal an impressive gravity recovery exceeding 98% after a 48-hour cyanide leach of gravity tailings. Notably, the low cyanide consumption, below 0.23 kg/t, reinforces the operational efficiency of the extraction process.
WRLG also reported a relative abundance of sulphide minerals in the Rowan Master Composites. As noted in Madsen and the Satellite deposits, the primary sulphides identified are pyrrhotite, followed by pyrite. Sphalerite was also found at Rowan and frequently exhibits spatial associations with visible gold.
Shane Williams, President & CEO, expressed optimism about the results, highlighting their significance in de-risking the high-grade resource at Rowan, "The results of this first phase of metallurgical test work at Rowan have exceeded our expectations, and represent a significant step forward in de-risking this high-grade resource".
Looking ahead, West Red Lake Gold Mines plans to conduct additional metallurgical test work at Rowan to confirm extraction under varying conditions, enhancing the understanding of Rowan's potential as a robust source of high-grade gold.
