Similarities with Canadian Malartic and Detour Lake
Both mines were not new discoveries, like Opemiska. Both projects had a well known open pit potential but limited drilling to prove the open pit concept. The old miners were focused on the underground concept. Both mines benefited from a rising gold price to put the open pit concept forward and drill the resource aggressively. It was all a question of timing.
I see the same thing with Opemisaka. We have a rising copper price and are drilling a known resource. Does it looks similar? Having invested in both Osisko and Detour, I can tell you yes.
I think this project really has good attributes for an open pit mine. The mineralisation hits surface, good for early production without stripping for years. The intersects are large, confirming easy open pit mining. The best is the localisation. Lots of $$$ can be saved. Cheap electricity also. No camp. How many large copper projects have this advantage. Not too many.
