Fresh, was my thought as I opened the door for the first time. Middle aged person I am, affected from the base components of cooking cultures. Looking for eats, that would leave a lesser, heavy cramping stomach. Chatham street walk with my friend, Chinese doctor. Lets try this Butcher restaurant, I think I know one of the proprietors partner. New mother.
After searching the outside window menu, we decides on the very good burger(with bacon and cheese, of course) poutine and a root beer for myself. J’s choice was the Kale Caesar Salad, I then suggested the bratwurst sausage… sure she said. I explained it’s a plant/bean based link, see what you think of the flavour! NO cow or bovine, swine, fried crickets, not even Balut.
Order paced with admiration of the cleanliness, friendly greeting at the order counter, take out was best as we planned a Mount Tolmie look out lunch, with the best views of Salish Sea. Constance Bank.
As we sat waiting for our order to be prepared, two chefs sending out dishes for customers in front of us, the presentation was mountains of succulent food, delivered by Zoey(I had asked her name).
Then came our “order up”. Brown bag with company logo, packed with our lunch. Zoey asked, is there anything else you would like?, yes, please some ketchup for the Poutine… thanks Zoey, looks good..
Off we go, brown bag in hand. Looking like we just left Gucci shopping center. Boasting a butchers logo.
From the pictures you can see, items in separate containers, appropriate for the safe keeping, three different style….. Never! seen that before.
The very good burger was fresh tasting, and as good as my view. I started by picking out a piece of bacon, was good flavour. Poutine loaded with cheese, green onions, gravy. Packed in a box, waxed lined…. No leaking and Not Styrofoam…nice.
As I looked over and saw the sausage, topped with sauerkraut, I asked how is it? May I have a small bit of the sausage, like to “hear that smell“(moon tell that, tik tok). It was very flavourful, with spices you would expect from a German bratwurst…. Mikey, he like it!!
She says, I will take the salad home as I am full from the sausage choice…let me know later what you think, as I had told Zoey I would post a review if they have a website.
As I arrived home, not feeling heavy in the stomach. Nice..
Later calling my friend, she says the Caesar salad was good, with the dressing provided, separate. Salad also in a different container, for freshness, I guess… nice, or “sweet” my son would say!!
From the two chefs, three ladies working inside the smaller location, I had asked two of them “ how is it to work here, lady at the register says, “I have been working here for just 2 months, and I really like my job“. Zoey said “it’s a great place to work“. Thanks for asking as she asked what is your name, as she shakes my hand.. Nice to meet you, enjoy your lunch..

Seems like a good place to gain employment, like a business I could see myself employed. I have some expertise, wisdom, and a few simple ideas I could suggest. Market lens. Influence.
My friend, is NOT easy to please outside of Chinese food, but she said, I will return with my daughter for lunch or dinner. Victoria is a world of foodies, and a gem is there in VGFC, 515 Chatham Street. I said, you could come here for a take out lunch, as your workplace is just down the street at the teaching college, were you are the principle professor/ clinician supervising doctor.. Jump on that e-scooter.
The secret of this Victoria gem, is not worth keeping.
