When over 50% of activity is shorting....company has to respond and is another reason to go 3 for one on float.  WE need more active traders, not professional shorters.

ETF's rebalance quarterly. If ETF's holdng VGCX (read VanEck's 5.8 Mill shares) decide to hold a lower percentage of VGCX than the previous quarter then we can see substantial market activity on rebalance day. A professional shorter may be banking on ETF's reducing exposure to VGCX and introducing new gold cos, e.g. is Artemis taking Victoria Gold's place in the GDXJ?  ...more

As speculated, a likely reduction by VanEck ETF's as 767,601 shares were traded after the close.  That explains some of the weakness in the share price, but tax-loss selling which usually peaks on the last Friday before Christmas may also be a factor.
