Billions in damage

A view of the heap leach facility at Victoria Gold's Eagle mine north of Mayo, Yukon. On Monday, the company reported a failure at the heap leach pad and said that there had been 'some damage to infrastructure and a portion of the failure has left containment.' (Victoria Gold)

The mayor of Mayo, Yukon, says a heap leach failure and slide reported Monday at the Eagle gold mine will have a "huge impact" on his community, and the territory as a whole.

Mayor Trevor Ellis said he's shocked by the incident which has indefinitely halted operations at the mine.

"'Catastrophic' would probably be, from what I'm hearing, would probably be a good way to describe it," he said of the incident.

I am sure there are many on this board that would be interested in how you came up with the statement "billions in damage". If it is pure speculation, you are really doing a disservice to the people on this board who are patiently waiting for actual numbers from the company

Probably not billions but a couple of hundred million to remediate the damage...move all the earth etc. Not to mention lawsuits and possible revocation of mining licence. And a company with no revenues and hundreds of millions of debt. You don't have to be a genius to see where this is going
