Honey Badgers 'expertise'

I posted comments yesterday before the infamous Government Victoria press conference. I passed on information from David Petley a world renown landslide expert pointing out serious on going situations regarding the landslide. Then I offered my opinion on how Victoria should or could resolve those problems. Honey Badger piled in with a detailed critique, in his usual snarky way.

He stated Petley's opinion that the rear 50 to 60 m high near vertical escarpment was in danger of imminent collapse was not fact...the Gov HLP expert later said it was.

He then questioned Petley's description of the HLP being unstable...saying it wasn't a fact...the Gov HLP expert confirmed it was unstable.

I suggested the easiest and quickest  way to make safe the massive dangerously unstable escarpment above the pad was to use explosives, to re-establish a safe angle of repose...of course HB ridiculed that...instead of that he suggested an alternative to explosives...to instead use waste rubble to build a gigantic loose stone retaining wall, that woul need to be around 150 feet high, on loose chippings that has already slid, and while doing that the crew would be working beneath a highly unstable cliff likely to collapse at any moment. He then said 'guess you never thought of that because using explosives sounds a lot more scary and fun'...he is right there for once, I wouldn't have considered such a dumb idea.

Later he calculated the amount of cyanide contaminated moisture in the 2 million ton over spill to be 60,000 gallons...later confirmed to actually be close to 80 MILLION gallons...tiny bit out there HB...

I suggested that the whole pad liner might have to be replaced given that Petley suggested, and bear in mind he had be right in his other opinions, that the landslide was rotational and very deep seated and could quite possibly have gone through the liner...HB ridiculed that, stating that there were 2 liners...ignoring the fact that 2 fully intact liners would still be required...
I post this only as a warning not to take Honey Badgers confident assertions too seriously, it could cost you money, true he knows a bit, but not nearly as much as he likes to think he knows.

Good luck to all, seems like we need it in this sector.

Well Nincompoop, the main concern I have or had with your post was that you don't seem to know the difference between FACT and OPINION, or if you do you don't seem to see the importance of fact vs. opinion.  Just because an expert makes a statement, it doesn't automatically make it a FACT.  In the end the expert(s) may very well be absolutely correct, but until their OPINION ...more

Hi Honey, I appreciate the fact that you quite openly admit that you have no relevent expertise in this area. I sighted two very qualified, highly respected actual independent from each other experts in this field...you still choose to question their opinions... that's OK...they are not verified FACTS...I simply tend to prefer the opinions of those who have highly specialised training, skill ...more
