How much did the Heap cost? Run the numbers ppl! :)

First I don't have any monetary interest in VGCX, but am  and always have been interested (involved :)) in mining.  I have read things like this mine is not coming back to a minimum of 13 months which I think is optimistic.  Snow is gonna fly in a cpl of month...

They is a lot of speculation on whether or not VG will come back as a viable corporation.  There will obviously questions come up after the initial shock is worn off   Jusding by facial expressions in the few update meeting YTG is in shock mode. imo Hard questions to the BOD,engineering, cosultants, day to day opreations and instructions along with  mine managment grilling come to mind.

That said even if everything is cleared by YTG, etc. to rebuild the mine, there is additional costs involved per m3 of heap leach rebuild to stabilize and make the pad whole assuming YTG and FN allow it on the same spot.

As an aside cyanide is not the only material used in the leaching process.  Some of that "other " component does not just evaporate.  Anyway here is a esimators process for figuring out cost.

If VG gets appoval to -rebuild and restart the bottom line is it going to come down to $.  Eagle is not exacly a high oz per ton mine.

So fines aside, addtinal personel and so forth here is document that is 10 years old but still I tihnk valuable.  Proable I would add 50% for increase in global costs and Eagle location.

Then I would double or tripple the numbers to allow for rectfying the exsiting sitution.

It is estimated that 1/3 of the 90mt is in the Gulch and it is also surmissed that some of it went under exisiting placer tailings.

None of the above is in any way scientific just some thoughts

Run some numbers from this report it has basling m3 estimate costs for new and add remediation, investors will see how hard it will be to get this mine up and running again, even if YTG and FH said just put it back in the same location, likely or not?

Look forward all comments and costs by investors.

Husky Thanks for this info.  Could you give in your opinion what a similar replacement pad cost would be today.
Comment by HuskySW on Jul 09, 2024 10:44pm
Not sure any one could give a realisitc replacement cost , too many variables.  but one can infer from the report (linked previously) an m3 cost +/- 25%  for such a structure. Here is an intresting (link below) article on VG mine build cost (the assessment studies, feasibility studies and permitting) was like 150m and another 487m to construct.  Remove the crushers, equipment ...more

Not sure sure your numbers are accurate Husky. There is a lot of misinformation floating around but if I recall, Phase 1 of the HLP was built to hold 32 million tonnes of ore, 4 tonnes escaped the embankment, and 2 million tonnes of that escaped containment. The 92 million tonnes was a total material expected for all 3 phases and thank god never reached maturity, or the mess would have been much ...more

17.2.2 Heap Leach Pad  -  The primary HLP is constructed in phases. Phase 1 will accommodate approximately 27.0 Mt of ore

MD I am not sure it matters 27 million tonnes to 32 million tonnes is still alot of tonnes.  The 92 million is sort of just a bigger number.  If you get hit with 10 nuclear warheads or 100 the result is still the same.  As to the amount of material that escaped containment the report I read it was sort of unclear!  According to it only have of the ore invloved in the slide is ...more

No question gimmeabreak1, and it is most likely the slide itself shifted much more than 4 tonnes of material, but reportedly only 2 million tons escaped containment according to those on the ground so a blessing I guess, in what could have been really bad considering the sites camp is a few hundred feet further down the slide path.   When looking at the Process Flowsheet in theTR page ...more

The meeting so far have been minimal in information imo  (legal has probably specified what may be said.) for all parties.  In one meeting it was stated the current question couldn't be anwered as another was in front the courts? Forget all the private indivuduals and corprotations for a moment, perhaps YTG is also wondering where their involment will end.  Some litigious firm ...more

MD Not to confuse things there are two distinct things we are talking about.  One being environmental and the other being economics.  From the environmental standpoint you are correct it appears that they may have contained much of the much of the treated ore but the amount of cyanide is still substantial.  From an economic standpoint whether they lost treated gold or untreated gold ...more

I agree givemeabreak1, but we need to wait to see if there is an insurance component to this slide, and who is paying for what.  We still dont know. Was this an avoidable accident?  An engineering oversight? A company trying to squeeze max profit by over stacking and as a result, a slide occured?  Also, the majority of the gold leached solution would be sitting in the sump area of ...more

Yes I think I saw those numbers too...  That's best guess by VG on what escaped?  My comment was twards the entire Phase 1as the remainder of Phase 1 will also have to be dealt with.  It's not like one can core drill the remainder to see what's up and maybe take a ride like the cat skinner, btw the operator isn't talking? My comment was more relating to the heap as ...more
