Would the best course of action not be to substantially increase the height of the embankment and fortify it so that if the remaining crest did let go, it would settle in the bowl and not flow out of containment?

As some one mentioned on another site, use the radial stackers at the base to distribute the material out of containment back into the HLP 24 hours a day. That way there would be very little human hands on the saturated material reducing hazard risks.

If they greatly reduce the slope of phase 1 stacking, it should eliminate any further slide potential, and IF it is determined the lower liners were not damaged, leaching should be able to commence over the sump areas.

They already have the equipment on site so it shouldnt be that difficult to accomplish before the rainy season starts.

jbrown Great questions.  I am also awaitng the VG engineering and consultants reports on proposals to remediate, if not pssible then better to lay out the bad news rather than pospone the mine (going into repair and remediation) for years... Just my opinion Best
