In relation to earlier comments about the storage pond not being lined, listen to CBC Reporter Darryl Greer's question at about the 47:55 minute mark and the response of the Inspector (Sven) about the status of the pond and that lining of the pond sounds to be next step and soon.  If correct this should address GMAB's earlier mentioned concern about the pond not being lined and the ...more

Badger, Thanks. I had heard the liner had to be shipped and then was held up at access road. Are you thinking VG management are manning the smelter. Best
Comment by givemeabreak1 on Jul 27, 2024 6:32pm
Husky This is an area of real confusion.  The liner is for  an additional containment pond.  So if you look back at a VG news release on the 12 they say they are already diverting water to lined containment ponds.  If I am understanding it correctly and I may be wrong it is one of these containment ponds that was found to have no liner.

break, Good grief! If that's what happened then their communcation pipeline is broken or? Best

Thanks for sharing the link.  There seems to be a building demand that YTG takes over.  I wonder if Hecla will be the operator if/when this happens?
Comment by OCB1234 on Jul 27, 2024 7:04pm
After their apparent cleanup efforts, NOBODY involved up there will let VG get near this thing from an operational standpoint again. That's why I wish the longs here would just take the L and move on before they lose everything.

gimmeabreak, in the overhead mine site pictures there is a huge lined event pond beside the Gold Recovery Building / Embankment area and another slightly smaller unlined event pond near the camp / slide toe. Seen in the picture on the right side If I am not mistaken an additional pond has been dug to contain overflow solution and will be lined but isnt quite ready yet.  Not surprising if ...more

jbrown, The information coming at us is like a derailed train. Like YTG said they are disappointed.  Really?  I'd be freakin livid! YTG is owrking with a co that does what they need to do,  not one iota more. Here's the msg., I think. You do what you do and I'll do what I do. It's actually very sad. imo Best

Husky, it appears every agency involved is tripping over each other trying to figure out the best path forward, instead of one agency taking a hard fast lead designating responsibilities . I get the impression VG may be trying to get the minesite safe as best they can, but also create revenue as well to keep the lights on. The shots taken at VG by the various government agencies including the ...more

mdj - What have you read that gives you the impression VG is creating revenue and how exactly would they accomplish that with no gold production?
Comment by HuskySW on Jul 27, 2024 8:34pm
forgive i'll chime in I beleive they are running olution through the carbon ADR facility.  There is so munch confusion on this belive YTG said they where not sure what they where doing in this regard.  I though tis was part of nutralizing the cyanide, but what do I know.  I was confused to. Best
Comment by HoneyBadger77 on Jul 27, 2024 9:50pm
Is this really that hard for people here to grasp?  The pregnant solution gets pumped from the HLP to the ADR.  It then goes through a process to extract the gold from the pregnant solution and creates a sludge that is then smelted and produced into gold bars.  The processed solution then would normally get retreated (i.e. more cyanide added) and then the solution pumped back up to ...more
Comment by HuskySW on Jul 27, 2024 10:23pm
This might help.? The pregnant solution after the ADR extracts gold is then  pumped back to the Heap in a more diluted form with no more Cyanide added/ ""The crushed ore is irrigated with a dilute alkaline cyanide solution. The solution containing the dissolved precious metals in a pregnant solution continues percolating through the crushed ore until it reaches the liner at the ...more
Comment by HoneyBadger77 on Jul 27, 2024 11:10pm
Exactly Husky, The leach solution containing the dissolved minerals is then collected, treated in a process plant to recover the target mineral and in some cases precipitate other minerals, and recycled to the heap after reagent levels are adjusted." So by processing the pregnant solution through the ADR and NOT adding reagent (not adding cyanide to the barren solution instead of ...more

'those saying the sky has fallen...'Honey... VG put out a statement themselves saying they may never reopen...guess they're just chicken littles then. You are arguing over semantics when you object to the use of the word catastrophe...of course it's a catastrophe...it was a catastrophic failure of the primary element in the mine. By pure luck, and literally luck only, people didn ...more

When even the company admits they likely never open again its game set match why is it even trading at 60 cents??? It has zero value cash burn rate is astronomical ... the atm will stop spitting out money very soon
Comment by mdjbrown on Jul 27, 2024 8:59pm
OCB, listen to the briefing.  A reporter asks about the rumour VG was producing gold. The government officials really didnt seem to know exactly how the Gold Recovery Circuit was being used except that the solution was being run through the carbon filters which is part of the smelting process. Clearly the sump and its components are operable if the Yukon Government is aware the Gold Recovery ...more

VG doesn't comply with a government order to build a berm which is an essential part of dealing with the environmental aspect of this disaster  And they're possibly producing gold at a mine that has been shut down ?, well if you're not going to follow government orders, why not?
Comment by OCB1234 on Jul 27, 2024 10:23pm
Not quite sure how that works either, but I guess anything is possible.

rack, never say never, AXU was in deep with al ot of this (it's along story). HL paid of all the deals inc. WPM (streaming cost)and kept the remediation part and moved forward.  Mr Baker took a hit for the co (Montana thing) and Hl moved forward. They have Lucky Friday, Greens Creek and a bunch of really nice stuff.  Nothings perfect but they move forward... I believe FN, YTG and ...more
