Mr Brown the process you are talking about is not for a bulk tonnage low grade mine.  The best use can be seen at Barricks Bulyanhulu operation which is a very narrow high grade mine!  That is not to say you cannot use these types of technology just that economically they usually do not work for bulk tonnage low grades............

Thank you givemeabreak I was thinking there must be a more environmentally, lower failure potential for processing ore than piling a massive loosely packed material overhang above a dish with low sides. What could possibly go wrong with a system like that? My guess is this particular type of HLF design wont be allowed in the Yukon again due to its likely potential to slide. There is lots of technology out there including alot that does not require any kind of cyanide.  The problem of course is the economics behind the technology.  Mining is a commodity ie highly competative and cost inputs matter.  I guess that is the scary part for some in the YT if you ban HL what do you end up with and can it be competetive.  Snowline has the high grades for ...more
