Will VG Eagle end up like Imperial Mt. Polly
First VG is no Imperial Metals and the VG collapse of containment was 2mcm vs 20mcm.
But for comparison both were containment failures.
Compare the two and then think what is going to send "shock waves" through the industry.
Considering VG was still trying to clean up the loss of containment and the free cyanide solution at Eagle when not one but two applicatons were made to force an appointment of a receiver(s), one by YTG at a federal level another by First Nations at a territorial level.
Want to talk about "sending shock" through the mineing industry at a global level well this is the way to do it. I'm not sure if there ever has been a "tag team" match like this before? It should also be clear if you read the news of The Yukon there is more afoot than "just a mine", there is almost a feeling of dislike. The mine was just the catalyst of a larger issue.
Polly:
"A five-year deadline for federal Fisheries Act charges expired Sunday, while the possibility of other charges under the same act remains with no timeline for a decision. British Columbia missed the three-year deadline to proceed with charges under both the province's Environmental Management Act and Mines Act."
"Imperial Metals' lawsuit against several engineering firms alleging negligence and breach of contract was settled out of court last year, resulting in the company receiving about $108 million"
"Michelle Mungall, B.C.'s Minister of Energy and Mines, said the disaster sent shock waves through the mining industry worldwide."

Eagle
"“The government’s decision to put the company and its assets in receivership, while the company indicated it would still work to address the accident, appears to be unprecedented in Canada,” the official Opposition added." “The Liberal decision places the liability for the site entirely on taxpayers, and increases the risk creditors and contractors will not receive value for their outstanding accounts.”
"The Yukon Chamber of Mines, meanwhile, said it “continues to monitor the rapidly evolving Eagle mine situation with great interest."
“Our members are concerned about the implications of receivership and the timing of its implementation. We have requested a formal briefing from the Yukon government to better understand the process that led to the receivership, and next steps for all parties involved.”
"The First Nation of Na-Cho Nyk Dun, meanwhile, plans to keep pursuing its own application to have Victoria Gold placed inreceivership. A spokesperson said the First Nation has no plans to drop its application, which was filed Wednesday." https://theyukonstar.com/receiver-will-manage-victoria-gold-corp-s-operations/
The Yukon where everyone sues....
"Na-Cho Nyk Dun is suing the Yukon government for signing off on a mineral exploration project in its traditional territory, located roughly 100 kilometres north of Mayo. The territorial government approved it on Feb. 19."
